Hello everyone, I drive a tow truck and run a small salvage yard. I'm a avid collector of the square body Chevy trucks, mostly the K30's. between my brother and I we have around 30 trucks and around 10 of them are K30's. Everyone is welcome to check out my few pictures and comment on them. I look forward to learning more about the trucks and helping others on here.

I've been collecting them a long time. Getting harder and harder to find around my area. All of them have seemed to rust away or the local scrappers like them because there heavy. my brother and I have bought a large horse boarding stable and are going to start taking all them we can apart that are rusted or wrecked beond repair and saving the peaces. I think at last count we have dismantled around 200 of them so far. sad part is we cant save much because of rust and just how many 1/2 ton 4x4 axles does a guy save?

A guy save a bunch of 1/2 ton 4x4 axles because they're easy to tear up. If you have to choose which ones to toss, toss all the 2.73 and 3.08's. Keep all the 3.42, 3.73. and 4.10's you can hold. Might keep a couple 3.08's for the guy looking just to replace the 1 to match the one he broke.

There would be a market for the 1/2 ton axles out here in the mud racing circles, if you got the right gear ratios they want. You haven't stumbled across any A833 transmissions in your exploits have ya?

All my friends want to upgrade to the 3/4 to or bigger axles around here. I do sell a few 1/2 ton axles to people that break one and want a cheap fix. We truck pull and offroad so I upgrade to 1 ton axles in all my drivers or just build 1 tons to start. If your talking about the 4 speed overdrive stick transmission I've only found one of those in 20 years around here that was good. Most trucks I get are rusty half tons with burn out 700r4's or 350 turbos. I have a terrible time finding the 3/4 4x4's anymore or any 1 tons that are reasonable

You're right, most want to go to the 3/4 ton axles for the heavier duty fun, but I have 2 4x4's. One is intended for the abuse which will be built for it, the other I keep with 10 bolts, is for light to moderate fun and bad weather but keeping the smaller axles to keep the cheaper tires, lighter weight and better mpg, so I do intend to break an axle occasionally and so what if I do. They are dime a dozen and I can't see upgrading to D60 fronts when those who have them think they got a piece of gold when they actuallly have a heavy ass low to the ground expensive to maintain hunk of ****. You give up alot to have that Dana 60 strength so I don't see the spending of the $800-$1000 to have one, when I can break Ten 10 bolts and still be ahead of the game, and keep my ground clearance, cheaper parts and better mpg instead of pushing that heavy slug up front around the city streets. Would I have a D60??? Hell yes, I'd suffer the losses with gain in weight, loss of ground clearance and compensate for my build for that, but I damn sure not going to overpay for one. I'll spend the big bucks for lifts and tires, but not axles.

So I was trying to count and remember all the tow/wrecker drivers we have here. There's me, Towman obviously, Jims86 did drive a wrecker at one time, and who am I forgetting??? I think there is at least one more for sure and I'm thinking 2 more so you'd make #5 or #6 TowJoe.

Ohh, I may be counting GreaseDog in that, he builds wreckers and rotaters, and installs wrecker beds, self loaders etc.
