Hey guys currently in the middle of wiring up my Holley terminator kit with the 6 speed controller. Im trying to figure out where to wire for the neutral safety switch. Looking for guys who have done this before.

It is asking for a ground in park and neutral and an open circuit in gear. I was able to find a little diagram someone came up with for this exact thing but it appears my neutral safety does not match and only has 2 wires running to it. I imagine these are just for reverse lights. Others have stated these blazers didn’t have neutral safety switches because the column is supposedly suppose to inhibit you from turning the ignition with the truck in gear. I’ve tested mine and that is not the case so I really would prefer to get this thing wired up correctly.

Any body have any recommendation on what I could do? I can get the 5 wire neutral safety from a local auto store but am not sure if it will work since my blazer doesn’t have any of the other wires that run to it. I can run all the wires shown on the bottom portion of the diagram but I do not see how it can provide a switched ground without a ground wire running anywhere to it. Unless is ground through the body to the column but as far as I can tell the unit is all plastic.

1986 does not have a neutral safety switch. It uses a mechanical lockout to prevent the key from turning. If you can give me more info,as to why your sniper needs theses signals,I might be able to help with a work around. Other than that I'd suggest trying to install a 1984 or prior Neatral safety switch,I do not no for certain it will swap so compare to your backup light switch if it looks swappable then you are just a few wire connections away. Last resort would be swap columns. But I'd bet money the switch will swap.

When I replaced my switch I went from a 4 prong to a 5 prong, the back up light and neutral safety harness plugs hooked right up.

I haven’t tested the unused prong you are referring to so I don’t know for sure if it goes to ground when in park/neutral.

You can always buy one and test it to see if it works, return it if not.

Here’s my old switch

WTH @CalSgt....... what's missing??
lol…. Those are old pictures, I probably enjoyed a celebration beer when my column was complete.

Actually, I dug through that day’s pictures and once the column was built I spent beer time cleaning and polishing my PCM and my billet bowtie horn button

What did you end up doing for this one?
We stripped our 81 down completely and a couple years later getting it wired up very similar to you. Terminator X Max with 6 speed controller. Using Ididit column and not sure which pins are needed on the NSS on the column.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

if it's hot for some reason when in Park/Neutral, you could always use that hot as a signal to control a relay that switches Ground OFF and ON. I've got an 86 K10 and I don't remember having to do the relay.

So with the switch above you can make it work either way.

Did you ever get this figired out? My Painless harness 60508 requires the same thing( your pic is from the manual). The ECU needs the ground reference from the column according to the instructions.
D. Locate the ORN/BLK and BLK/WHT wires in the dash group. These two wires are for the Gear INDICATOR Switch, NOT the Neutral Safety Switch. If you have a GM column then you can use the combination switch Delco P/N D2286A and wire it as described in paragraph 2 or 3 below. The ORN/BLK wire needs to be grounded in "Park and Neutral" and ungrounded in "Drive". This can also be done with a toggle switch or a switch on the parking brake. NOTE: The ORN/BLK and BLK/WHT wires are only needed if using a 4L60E transmission. If you are using a manual transmission then you will tape and stow these wires. CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THESE WIRES USING DIRECTIONS FROM DIFFERENT PARAGRAPHS. YOU MAY DAMAGE THE COMPUTER. D.1. The recommended switch is a combination reverse light, gear indicator AND neutral safety switch. You may use it for all these purposes if you wire it EXACTLY as shown in Figure 6.4 Illustration B D.2. If you are going to use the recommended switch as a gear indicator for the computers benefit ONLY, then you will wire it as shown in Figure 6.4 Illustration A. D.3. You may want to install your own switch. This switch must connect the ORN/BLK wire to ground only when the car is in PARK OR NEUTRAL. You may or may not want to use the BLK/WHT wire. The other end of the BLK/WHT wire is already grounded throughout the harness.
