Need help np205 on k30

Hi new here, I have a 83 k30 with a sm465 and np205tc I drove the truck all summer in 2 wheel drive with no issues. I went to take it out this winter I put it In 4hi let the clutch out and the truck will just stall I put it back In 2 wheel and it does the same thing it acts like something is bound up not sure what or how but now it wont move forward or In Reverse any help is much appreciated.

Several things I'd look at first...

Any new/nasty noise(s)?

Does the tcase seem to shift freely? Could it be a shifter problem and have it hung between gears?

With the locking hubs unlocked, can you turn the axle shafts at the knuckle? If yes, does the drivehsaft turn or just the opposite side axle?

Can you turn the driveshaft by hand (hubs unlocked, tcase in 2wd and/or neutral)?

If the driveshaft wont turn, remove it and see what the truck will do.

All of this is assuming none of the wheels have issues (locked up, brake/bearing problems, etc)

No new noises brakes are not hung up. It has auto hubs. It does shift pretty rough, the truck only has 8k on it it is a ex fire department brush truck so it's done a great deal of sitting I bought it last spring. I changed all fluids they looked good I'm leaning towards it being stuck between gears

Even if not the problem take a good look at the auto locking hubs, these are notoriously problematic at any age. I doubt they are your issue though as they typically quit locking and leave folks stranded in 2wd at the worst possible time.

I forgot to mention this yesterday...

If the the 205 is stuck between gears and you have to tear in to it, you should know you should have a synchronized np205. '82-'84 (maybe '85) 1 ton trucks with auto locking hubs came with a synchronized version of the 205, the shift fork assemblies, front output shaft and lower rear cover (and rear bearing) are different from a typical 205. This will be important if you need parts.

The syncro'd np205 is identifiable by an oiling vein on the rear cover -

Ok I will check into it a little more this weekend if it stops snowing. thanks for the help

maybe this helps to find the source of the problem: Jack up the truck. With all tires off the ground and transmission in neutral/no gear try to rotate the driveshafts in all variations of 2hi, 4hi, neutral 4low. If the 205 is bound/stuck you will not be able to move them. If the hubs are stuck the front driveshaft will not rotate, no matter what you do with the tcase.

bingo. can only spin the driveshaft when tc is in neutral. guess ill be pullin the tc when i get time and its not -10.
