Just wondering if anyone knows if its possible or feasible to have the 4x4 shiter on the driver side without going driver side drop? like retaining stock axles and t-case but haveing a gmt400 shifter.
edit:I guess one could go cable shifted that wouldn't be too hard right?

What transfer case are you referring to? I'd imagine with some fab work on the rod you might be able to do this.

well it was just a thought not an actual project. eventually I want to build a 3+3 cummins allison np205 and i thought it would be nice to have the shifter closer to the driver. especially considering i want a custom center console with console shifter for the trans. don't want to be leaning all the way over the truck to engage 4x4.

Sounds like your need to trade in your square and buy a new truck with that fancy shmancy push button four wheel drive. ;)

I think they make cable kits for a variety of t-cases now. Might be the easiest way to move it where you want. Otherwise you'd have to fab some kind of shaft with linkage over the top of the t-case

ive seen some guys make their own cable kit but all on off road buggies or something where the shifter is just a steel lever. guess using an oem style shifter wouldn't be any different. even if you had to fab up a cable bracket.

I've seen gmt400 guys make cable shifters all the time mostly when going to a ps drop 241 or such case yet retain the ds shifter. or in some cases move it to the ps and use the ps drop case.

I'd say it could be done, or even fab some linkage. I saw a guy fab some linkage and use his ds gmt400 shifter on his ps drop 241 squarebody t-case, no cables.
