Mini starter gasket?

I picked up a new mini starter. Came with a bag that contained new bolts and a thin foam gasket...

I guess. I haven’t bought a starter that comes with anything like this before. Looked on the manufacturers website and found nothing.

Any thoughts?

I've put on a lot of new starters. Never seen that before.

it's so you dont scratch the starter. Hell if I know lol. Maybe on certain vehicles it would keep water out of that area?

I guess I’ll just proceed as usual and chuck the foam.

Where did you get your starter? Is it an NAPA? What was the cost if you don't mind sharing and warranty?

Yes, Napa. It has a lifetime warranty. I brought a core and the difference was around $125.
