Brother I know! That’s why I want to see one in use before I pull the plug! But since it is made specifically for the stepside it should fill the space the best
It’s a super cool idea though! I’ve seen some like that before that guys made themselves. If you can weld and can find another stepside tailgate, might could make one cheaper

We purchased one from Mar-K and although it was expensive, it fits very well and is Made in the USA... We also their bedsides, front piece, tailgate and wood kit. The fit and finish of everything was spot on.

Watching as I sold mine in the farm auction for like 10 bucks...I want one that mounts on the back side behind the wheel wheel, and no wider. Just for a bottle of anti freeze, oil, towels, jumper cables and some tools. May have to make it.

Just an FYI in case you didn't know, Mar-K is out of business as of April. I'm seeing alot of people online that didn't realize that and now have money tied up that they're trying to get back. Although I just checked and it looks like the website has finally been taken down

I think the correct JOBOX painted truck color and legs shortned as needed would be a good looking second choice, with minimal work.

Why? There are several mfgs and versions of over the wheel well toolboxes.

Damn! Hahaha. You mean no one bought their overpriced concours restoration quality parts? Have you ever worked with their moldings and were they OE or better quality/thickness?
Think they/someone is selling off their stock, maybe get a set of ‘77 body moldings for less than a house payment?

I built a fender well, or ‘porkchop’ (never heard it called that either but I like it) box as a high school metal shop project for my 76.

These aren’t great pictures, but it has the upper compartment and then the lower area. The big difference between mine and commercial ones is it tucks under the bed rail and goes all the way under the rail. So almost no wasted space.

Dirt simple cut the top off a 5 gallon Jerry can put a hinge on it,I can think of a couple of ways to latch it. Section it if it's too tall for your liking. Even more simple cut a square out of one side, make a door out of the square. If I did a door I think I'd cut it. Hard to explain, but I'd cut it so when the door was opened the exposed end of the Jerry can was completely open. As in cut it 1 inch from the far end on one side put in a piano hinge there, cut it inch from the front on the other side. So opened 1 side and 1 end would be exposed.
