Me to! But I'd be investigating it my self. These motors are to easy to work on.
My buddy who owns the truck - wrenching is not his forte'. 35 yrs ago he was in law school - aced a final and was out with 2 friends to celebrate. Walked past a bus stop and some inner city savage jumped off the bus and bashed him in the back of the head with a pipe (no reason of course). Animal ran off....bus driver thought she knew who he was but got amnesia when asked. He wasn't expected to survive. Had to learn to walk and talk again. Super good guy - have known him since kindergarten. He would do anything for you - but wrenching isn't his thing. I think the clown shop recognized this and took advantage of him.

About your CPS question, just for information. I had an '02 6.0 that started needing a long crank to start. It always would start though. It also idled a little rough. I drove it that way for a while before getting it fixed. All it took was a new CPS and then it started and idled fine. So yes, they will start and run very well with a bad sensor.

right, but I took someone to a yard that i half trust. He said " if it's not a 5.3 are you going to feel the difference? I mean, they have the same lower end as the other". No they don't. Lesson learned again from this yard, it was a 4.8. So now he's had to get a 5.3 crank and connecting rods.

Get a camera and look at the pistons.
