Before the other bright green object showed back up, I had dug into the free chainsaw I was given a few months back. It had sat under a deck for about 20 years (in the case), I got it to pop off on some spray, I had put some fuel mix in the tank and it pumped fuel, and proceeded to leak fuel from the handle all over. I set it aside and finally decided to take a look as I had gotten the other free chainsaw a coworker gave me running (needed a new primer bulb of which I had on hand).

Luckily on this saw a single screw and the handle top comes off exposing the fuel line. Or well, what once was a fuel line. It must have been mostly one piece as it began pulling fuel before it crumpled. Removed the chunks and replaced with a new piece of line and got it to pop off (after a little oil and carb cleaner sprayed down its throat) and after the smoke cleared was running off the tank.

For a smaller saw (32cc I believe) it seems pretty peppy. I need to get a shorter bar and chain for it. I think a 12” bar would do nice on it. I have my big old Homelite (super xl 925, 82cc) for big stuff if needed.

This makes three free chainsaws that required $0 to make run and operate.

Unfortunately, having the ability to fix things like that means I'm developing a huge collection of machinery and equipment that was "free." Except now I have to find space and time to store and maintain all that stuff. So, it still comes with a price.

12” bar would work good. Those little top handle saws are good for climbing. No brake on it?

On the topic of the high price of free stuff, I got a bunch more stuff this past Sunday.

Some shop cabinets, some old house jacks, portable winch, various old small wheels, three slot mags (one oddball and two matched) and

A tote full of mostly new bearings. Not that I have a use, but you know, free...

I was very pleased to get these cabinets, one is that they were in my bosses shop he rented back around 15 years ago, I remember them from when I was a wee lad, and two this means I don't have to follow through with my original plan of building custom wood cabinets to fit.

I used some unistrut and zip tied the light to it to provide an overhead light.

Then these Hilt cabinets happened to fit perfectly in-between the studs and are 6" deep like the studs so they are flush mounted.

Couldn't have planned that better if I tried I don't think.

Then proceeded to shuffle stuff around, this worked out good as I was able to free up space in three other cabinets, and get like things better sorted together.

Took a look at the bearings, realistically most of these are not fit for use, or a gamble. Mostly because of how they were stored. So far the ones I looked the numbers up haven't been for automotive applications. Not surprised as these probably came from Curtis Toledo or maybe Lincoln Engineering.

This is one of the reasons too I wanted these cabinets. My boss had made a run of these back around 2008, the mount is threaded for use as a shifter handle, remove the hairpins and the live 9mm's and the knuckles can be removed.

Only one of them is present, I may make a few more to fully furnish the cabinets.

The Hyatt Bearing Company was where former GM president Alfred Sloan got his first experience in corporate management. Charles Kettering ran Delco where he invented the electric starter. I'm sure we've all heard those two names together before.

Then worked on the roadrunner before closing up for the night, I told the owner I can wire the gauges up for him and he said go ahead. Really the hard part was done, running the oil line and capillary tube for temp, and building an enclosure for them. All I needed to do was make a simple harness for the lights and power/ground for the volt meter and power and signal for the tach.

The wire is what I pulled out from behind the gauges, this was an attempt to wire them up. I was told him and a buddy tried to wire the tach up and somehow killed the MSD ready to run distributor and had to have it replaced. Pro tip, don't use one color for everything. In my opinion four colors is about the minimum.

Just need to tidy up and land powers and grounds in the car. I was just testing with an m12 battery. Everything does function including the tach now.

Dang, that was a score with those cabinets! I have a few old shop cabinets stashed at work cuz I don't have a place for them at home. I've now accumulated so much crap, I think it's time to find places to mount them and start using them lol

Yeah I would like to get some wall cabinets for my shop. All I have is shelves and dust gets over everything.

I was very happy to get them, and super pleased they worked out like they did. I didn’t measure them beforehand, just said I’ll take them.

People either want crazy money for them or wrong time/place/etc when a deal comes up. Wasn’t letting these slip by. And new ones (like new age) are nice (but you pay for that), but I really like the character of used ones.

Yeah I would like to get some wall cabinets for my shop. All I have is shelves and dust gets over everything.

Storage density and organization are of course a large factor, but protection from dust and swarf are a nice bonus too.

Got the auxiliary gauges finished up in the RR, worked on the cluster some, checking bulb function from the circuit board. Everything appears to function now, illumination wise.

Replugged in the cluster into the car and checked function and happy to report everything illumination wise works, hi beam indicator, turn signal indicators, oil light, brake light, panel lights.

Before the right indicator worked and I think that was it. Also before the headlights would blink with the blinkers, doesn’t do that anymore either. Pulled the steering wheel and checked and cleaned horn contact and the mating surface on the steering wheel and fixed the wire for the shift indicator light, needs a bulb though.
