Just ordered a holley truck avenger today the 770.
Ive always had a 750 edel on it and it stalls all the time Tired of it. So it should help being a high angle carb atleast im hoping.
There looks like theres more adjustments you can to tune it in. Just wandering what peoples experiences are with it thx

Dang one day, did you try to tune it at all or just didnt like it from the get go. Ill give it a chance and try to make it run as well as it can on an older Tired motor. Till i can put a good long block together.

I have ran a ton of holley's on performance cars and trucks and have had great luck with them. Every eddie I have had I have thrown in the trash.Holley is a way better carb.imo. I have never used a truck one though only the 4160 and 4165 series and if set up right work great off road.

Now day's I run the jet q-jets , stage 1 for close to stock and stage 2 for modded motor's and they are the best for me now ,best mileage possible and great performance and work at any angle off road.

A few years back I bought a 73 lon bed with a 454 , rv cam with big oval port heads and it had a eddie on it. Drove it for 3 months then threw the eddie in the dumpster and put the jet stage 2 on it , WOW huge power gain and way better mileage.

I think you will be happy with your new holley.

I had a Holley 670 TA carb, it worked fine. For whatever reason, it was the best cold weather starting carb I've ever had. Even better than a proper working Quadrajet.

I got the new carb and put it on runs strong has an initial bog im figuring out through jetting and power valve combos theres alot of tuning that can be done. I put 87 jets in and kept the 25 p v in and a 40 discharge nosle in it runs good but am going to try 80 and a 45 power valve and 40 dis nosle. Im ordering a jet tuning box so i have all of them to try and figure it out..we will see .......

Most 600-750 Holleys I've installed run great with stock jetting, at least at sea level to 1000 feet elevation. Usually, all that's needed is idle mixture and float level adjustment. I like Edelbrocks, but have always found the 750s to be a pain to tune. I think they may work OK on 454s, but not small blocks.

What kind of an engine do you have that requires a 750 or 770? Big cubes, big cam, high revs? And how much manifold vacuum do you have at idle? And have you thought about using a stock mechanical fuel pump with the proper pressure for a carb?

Its a 454 mostly stock. Its prety old and tired needs a timing chain and valve job. Its so far advanced just to get it to run. Its at about 20 on the vaccum gauge idling. With the 74 jets that came in it if you floored it at any time it would bog down and go know where. Atleast now it gets up and goes but ill do a chain and valve job rv cam soon hopefully so at least i can drive it till then. . Im still going down on jets and up one on power valve and see where its at theres almost to many things you can change and me not really sure on what to change and to what its going to be a long tuning experience. Knowing that with an old motor its irrelevant but ill learn Things about it AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE lol

So i put a new pump on it this weekend and still shows 6-7psi on start up then drops to 3-4 after pump gets warm. Idk whats wrong its a 14psi pump im going to move some wiring around to see if it makes a difference. Also I put the hollow screw in the discharge nosle made a huge difference. Went to the white spring on the secondary diaphragm much better on the freeway..

So i put 80 jets 5.5 power valve small yellow spring for secondary and it runs like a champ. But now have a leak in the base plate i just switched it out tightened everything up and ill see tomorrow if its leaking still. I also put a phenolic spacer on to try and keep some heat off it we will see how she does.
