Hi my name is Franco (frank in US) i´m from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have a 1974 C-10 with a 230" L6 engine, 3 speed transmission. I add some pictures about my truck. If you see, here in Argentina, CHEVROLET made the C10 trucks following the same body lines but with little changes for example, here they change the tail lights with a smaller lens that only have night light and stop light. Didn´t have reserse light. In 1987 came with the US tail light to 1991/1992 where factory stop made in it. The tailgate is different too you can see the pictures.

Now i have my truck in the body shop for a complete painting work. And i have an idea in my mind and is to buy an used complete LQ4 6.0 engine with clutch and a T56 transmission. Could you tell me some pages from junkyards or similar places that sell this engines and transmissions.

Thanks, and excuse me if my english is not good.

Hello HotRod, thanks. Yes i´m looking for a LQ4 or LQ9 if its better, my idea is to buy it with a T56. I have a friend in USA who can send it to South America. Could you give some pages where i can find this engine and gearbox?

Also i want to buy a rear axle that support up to 400 hp. Do you know anything for this specification because i´dont know so much for American rear axles.

Thank you

Nice truck Franco!! Welcome to the site. The only thing I see wrong.....not enough pictures:). Open the hood, throw the doors open, and show us more of your truck. I find the bed cover hold downs interesting but can't tell too much about them from the picture. I haven't seen a setup like that were I'm at.

Cool to see a truck from Buenos Aires. I visited your city back in 2005 on my way to Cordoba. Pretty crazy driving in the city. We ate some great beef there near our hotel.

Thanks CoggedBelt. Really i don´t have pictures of the engine or with the hood open. Here i show you some old pictures of the truck when it was more original. Then i modificate de front suspension using a SILVERADO front suspension from Argentina (here all trucks from 1964 to 1978 came with drum brakes, only the 1980 c10 imported from USA has disc brakes, and then in from 1987 to 1991 Argentina made the C10 with front disc brakes and i put this suspension. The difference its that mi truck have 6 lugs and 87-91 have 5 lugs so i have to change the wheels.

I modify the center of the rear axles to use 4 wheels with 5 lugs and i mount 10" x 15" with 295/50 r15 sumitomo. Then i low the height modifying the upper and lower arms in a chasis shop. Now i have a clearance of aprox. 10 cm from floor all with springs and modificated shocks. Here in Argentina is not common to use air suspension because the expensive to do the conversion.

Thanks Splandman, here in Argentina there are a lot of good cars, many people love american old cars like FORD FALCON, FORD FAIRLANE, F100, CHEVROLET NOVA II (IN ARGENTINA CALLED CHEVY), NOVA I (IN ARGENTINA CALLED CHEVROLET 400), DODGE GTX, VALIANT (SIMILAR TO THE PLYMOUTH FURY) for example. So in USA you have the best cars! ;)

The beef and meet are so good in Argentina.

It´s a pleasure that you have been here.

I'd love to have one of those South American squares here in USA. There are differences for sure. For example, I'm pretty sure he's saying it has a 230 motor in it. I'm assuming a straight 6. Wasn't 230 gone by 1966 in USA? Other differences too, like our trucks get the GM 10 or 12 bolt rear axles. In S. America, pretty sure they got Dana 44 rear axles. Instrumentation is different. I like the S. American seats better too.

Hi HotRod, i´m gonna tell you. Here in Argentina C 10 trucks from all years came with a 230" straight 6 or a 250" straight 6, and in the CHEVROLET 400 (CHEVY NOVA I in USA) also came with a 194" straight 6.

In Argentina you can find trucks with Dana 44 rear axles (in my case) or Eaton rear axles.

Another difference is power steering and air conditioned, only the Silverado trucks between 1987 to 1992 have it. Before that all trucks came only with heater. In a few cases GM OF ARGENTINA made Squarebody trucks 74-78 without heater for Army use.

My truck seats doesn´t be original, they came from another small truck (Peugeot 504 pick up), i think the South American seats are the same than American seats.

You want to see this page from Argentinians vehicles with it history and photos.

No doubt. I'd love to have a South American squarebody here in USA. If at all possible. I know emissions is one issue and I'd imagine the glass is OK by now. Back in the late 70's I had a cousin wanting to bring his BMW from Germany. The Germany glass didn't meet USA safety standards, so by the time he paid the shipping, replaced all the glass, updated the emissions to meet USA standards, he was ahead of the game to sell his BMW before he came home and buy another one here.
