Hi guys and gals.
I wanted to take a few to introduce myself. I've been trolling the site for about 7-10 days now, and joined officially now that I knew more specifics on my "new to me" square.
I have been, and am currently active on many automotive / marine based forums already, so I'm not new to the rules, regulations, information, and yes, even flaming that goes on with forums. Fortunately, this site appears to have very little of the flaming going on, so that's a big positive. My username is the same on many of my other forums (SilveradoSierra, Forest River Forums, Traverse Forum, Pontoon forums) so if you've seen me there, I hope I wasn't rude to you.
I recently came across a 1981 GMC C15. This truck was my wife's grandfathers' truck, that she remembers him having since she was a little girl. He wasn't the original owner, but probably the 2nd or 3rd. I guess that would make me the 4th or 5th, or who knows. Either way, it's been in the "family" for at least 35 years. I have no clue what all it needs yet, but I do know that there are sure to be surprises with the truck. The wife's grandfather was a shade tree mechanic, and then her uncle and cousin who took the truck once the grandpa passed, were bailing wire and duct tape kind of guys. Nothing wrong with that, as they all have their place, but I'm sure I will be cussing some of their patch work in the near future. The current plans are to get the truck to my place, and see what it needs before coming up with a plan. I'm tackling this project (not my first) with my wife's little brother, so he can learn a bit about rebuilds, and so I can hopefully sway him away from the blue oval, and into better things.
I will post pictures of us recovering the truck, and things along the way in a rebuild thread once I get the actual truck. We go to pick it up this weekend (11-9-19) so hopefully all goes well.
Thanks for the great site thus far, and I look forward to learning a lot from you folks, and hopefully I can teach someone something along the way as well.
