More testin has indicated that bank one and two front O2 sensors are reading like they should and with the cats lit the rear sensors are aslo reading as they should. As the front ones follow the fuel trim the rears stay nice and steady. So the cats seem to be liting and working the same since the numbers match for both sides. I guess they are just not quite efficient enough. I changed the stat so now I reach 186 deg at idle and I plan to try some Cataclean on a 1/4 tank to improve the cat function. Will see....

Was talking to a cousin today about all this, he spent years in Maryland, with emissions...he was saying drive the thing like 2 hours before you have it tested and don't sit too long beforehand...also can run ever clear (100% alcohol) in the tank and it will clean the sucker out too

Thanks for the tips. I have done the alcohol trick too on other vehicles. Befoe they changed to doing the OBD test anything newer than 1967 required inspection and alcohol was the go to trick to pass.
Right now I am struggling to get this truck to pass it's self tests so it's considered ready for inspection. I need it to switch one more moitor to ready before I can even be considered ready or I get rejected.
I figure the cats are working but must be marginal at storing O2 during the self test for efficiency when the computer does the rich/lean catalyst test. It takes up to five drive cycles to get it to run the test and my normal commute to work doesn't include the speeds or distances required to get it to do it so I have been leaving early and taking the long way to work. Like 30 miles longer. I must say I know more about how the system works than I ever cared to know!

The saga continues. I have had 5 P0101 MAF sensor circuit voltage low DTCs pending in the last 8 days so I will be replacing that this evening. And I have had 3 hard P0420 bank one catalyst efficiency low DTCs set.
I ran down to 1/4 tank last night, added two bottles of Cataclean and ran it until the low fuel light came on then went and added 20 gallons of fuel. I want to stay below 3/4 and above 1/4 tank so I have a chance at setting the EVAP monitor to ready.
I will see what happens once the MAF is changed and if it will set the catalyst monitor now that I ran the cleaner through it.

Tired of this already!

Anyone ever use these plugs? Can get a set of eight with wires for $35.00 but I am not sure about them. I have always been a die hard AC Delco plug guy for my GM rides. Plus Knowing the spark will only jump one gap at a time I feel the four grounds is more of a gimic than a benefit.

my friend tried to run e3 plugs in his 02 gmc envoy 4.2l straight 6

FAIL

my rule of thumb has always been
AC Delco = GM
Autolite = Ford
Champion = Mopar
