Overflow tank is attached, it's new thermostat, I boiled it before install and it opened up. I put the new cap on but haven't had a chance to drive it. Back in town tomorrow so I'll take it for a drive. Temp hasn't been all over the place since the new pump and thermostat was installed , pretty much stays at 205-210. Maybe the overflow tank is cracked, I'll have to take a look

Temp shouldn't be higher than 180 when driving. Unless you have a whacky thermsostat.

Pretty sure it's a 195 thermostat, so it should run around 200-210 normally...although, the gauge was pretty cheap, I'm not sure how accurate it is either

I find that 180 is too cold I go with the 195

180 is to cold for a ECM controlled engine. So TBI and later should have a 195 Tstat. IIRC, 180 will work OK for ESC, but fairly certain, even the simple ESC that used very few read only parameters, waited for a certain temp before it allowed timing advance via ignition control module.

I advanced my timing a tiny bit, now runs at 200-205... Way more power when I mash on it!

Advancing initial timing a tiny bit shouldn't make you run that much warmer. Also advancing timing can create that vapor lock effect and hard starts when warmed up. If you're happy with the advanced timing, what you might want to consider doing is setting your INITIAL timing back to where it goes. Then, have your distributor recurved to bring in more advance a bit earlier. Now I'm talking about the centrifical advance with the springs and weights under the dizzy cap. Use a little lighter spring and it'll bring the advance in at lower rpm. This way when you're at idle you initial timing is set proper and when you shut your truck off it's at initial timing, and when you go to start your truck after it's warmed up, the timing is the lower initial timing and you should not have the hard start problem. Yet with the dizzy mod, your timing will advance quicker and lower rpm and should give you performance you're getting now when you mash the gas. Might ask for some other opinions, or do a little research on recurving your centrifical timing advance. I know the kit used to be about $8-$10. Not sure what it is now, but it comes with new weights and 3 different sets of springs.

It's actually running 5-10 cooler with the timing adjustment. Fires right up with one pump cold and just turning the key when warm. I think I'll try and get a new dizzy, I really want an msd setup, the cap and rotor alone helped a lot but it like the dizzy and 6 al box too

Carb still floods like crazy but it's random... Fuel pressure is floating around 10-11 ... Guessing that's a problem for this holley carb... Anyone have that happen? New needle, new float, still flooding like crazy

Installed a mr gasket fuel
Pressure regulator, $39 at orielly , fuel pressure is 7lbs now, runs way better, no flooding yet. :)

Is 7 about max for these carbs? I was kind if thinking about lowering it but it seems to be running ok and don't wanna rock the boat lol...
I read somewhere anything over 3.5lbs will do, ... Any advantage with the Lower pressure? Save the needle seats maybe?

I ran a mr. Gasket inline pressure regulator and set it on 3, gauge on the fuel rail has been reading about 6.5... Seems to like it.
I still think it needs some more tuning .... Timing and mixture maybe...

Pressure regulator stopped the bouncing fuel pressure gauge and excessive flooding in the secondaries issue, which was fouling my plugs as well... This motor had issues lol

So you pretty much answered your own question with the inline pressure regulator. Seems legit to me. :waytogo:

Thanks! ... Now I think I need a new distributor, it's kinda gutless off the line and won't do a brake stand ... Not trying to brake it but it should be able to light em up!!! Lol

Dizzy not advancing maybe causing the weak take off?
