Hello Everyone,

I’ve just finished running the feed line from the tank to the electric pump that I have installed on the passenger side frame rail. As you can see by the picture, the fuel filter is pretty close to the muffler (about 1.5”). Could I replace the plastic filter with a metal one, wrap the fuel line in insulation and be fine with it? Any input is appreciated, thank you.

I would relocate the fuel filter to a different location, and connect those hoses with a brass coupler.

Then I would zip tie the fuel line to the frame, using those holes in the frame that are to the left of the fuel filter. If you are worried about temps, just get some aluminum heat shield tape and wrap the line.

Get a metal wix filter and move it up a little farther on that hose and run it. My suburban is a similar clearance, havent had an issue.

As long as it can't move enough to sit against the exhaust it should be fine.

Thanks everyone for your insight, I think I’m going to replace the plastic filter with a metal one, insulate the lines and filter and I’ll zapstrap the line and filter to the inside of the frame rail to get it further away from the muffler. I was thinking about heat wrapping the muffler too as well to cut the heat down, thanks again to everyone!

Ya maybe, I was thinking typo. Given the big ole fuel pump hiding there in the corner of the first pic.
Regardless, I would not generally pull fuel through a filter. In most scenarios.
They make filters for pulling through. Some manufacturers won't warranty a pump unless you use one. It is not as fine a mesh as you'd use for the carbureator. I use the biggest one I can find, stood at an angle,so it acts as a reservoir so the pump inlet always a pool of fuel with a tiny bit of head pressure to prevent pump dry starts.

It's a Mr. Gasket P95 pump, the installation manual recommended a 30 micron filter between the tank and pump and so I got a cheapo NAPA one. I'll swap it out for a metal one as I think the plastic one would be prone to melting or getting brittle from the heat.

Sad Sack nailed it, 383. Technically a 385 as it's bored .40 over.
Do you know what a heat shield is? Before I'd wrap anything I'd make a heat shield that bolted to the frame rail between the exhaust and the fuel lines, fuel pump. Here is something else to consider,a liquid under vacuum boils at a lower point than a liquid under pressure. We pressurize radiators to raise the boiling point,we vacuum air conditioning systems to boil out the water. The least line you have under vacuum and the most line you have under pressure minimizes your chances of boilng the fuel.

Or a hose clamp and a pop

can on the filter for now, leave an air gap. Gutter flashing or cut down spout,if longer term

All valid solutions but the pipe guard would be first class!
Looks like if he just get it tucked up against the top of the rail and a metal filter would be quite a ways away.
So let’s see the truck. It looks clean!
