Are you sure it was new you'd be surprised how many items get sold and dumped back on the shelf after being returned a day or two later when someone discovers the swap didn't fix their issue and it gets passed on to be the next guy's problem. I have found this to be common with a lot of local/chain parts stores. Starters, alternators, carbs, distributors are common for this to happen with, even seen used lifters that ended up back in a stores inventory that somehow was returned as if they were the new ones and no one caught it or didn't know/care enough.
Also, Edelbrock sells the carbs that were sent back and tested as good discounted as remans reputable places will say it's a reman and will be discounted like a hundred bucks some others will sell these as new for normal price.
I've never had an issue with an Eddy new or reman but that doesn't mean one wasn't installed then returned full of garbage and then dumped on the shelf instead of being sent back to Eddy to be checked out.
