GM is always going to tell you how great the product is. They raved about the Olds diesel too.

Ahh didnt know that.

The free-standing cylinder liners were a bad idea. It had no block deck, kind of like Cadillac's 4100 except the liners were replaceable.

Yeah I know. I just thought it was an interesting video and it happened to pop up the same day as this thread. It's funny though, when I watched it, I thought to myself "Huh, those free standing cylinders are a terrible idea." Lol

We had a number of the 8.2 GM fuel pinchers in a some bobtail and stake body trucks where I worked in the 80’s and 90’s they were prone to backfires and when they did it would shear the pin for the camshaft gear and the cam bearings would spin and the 8.2’s blocks are non-serviceable meaning you can’t have it line bored on the cam journals, I’ve changed out several of them in my time there FWIW

For as many of the 8.2 Detroit motors that are in just about every school bus and medium duty trucks that they’re in you’d think GM would have engineered a beefier block, who knows way above our pay grade stay safe Bucket
