dana 70hd help....4 pinion-2 piece case standard

truck- Frankensteined 79 k3500 dually. no bom on rear axle housing...Ive cleaned to the white meat on both tubes 360 degrees. 3.73 ratio 35 spline. 70HD in fwd web casting, C37453 casting opposite side, B149..maybe 140 at bottom, have no idea if this is relevant for a data miner but there it is......the carrier is a 4 pinion 2 piece carrier standard. 4 spiders stacked on a cross shaft that is open in the middle. side gears and spiders only have thrust washers behind them(not a power lok stack). *****can i replace my side gears with the side gears available on the market for the 1 piece carrier assy?**** can not find any interchange info much less a PN.

only place i can find my 4 pinion 2-piece carrier is in an old dana pdf on billavista.com file x510-9. If standard 1 piece carrier 70hd side gears wont work, what are my options outside of axle swap due to lack of part support for this config?

Let me go ahead and thank ANY one that responds to this with insight. My hat is tipped to your knowledge and obvious years of experience in dana parts identification and interpretation.

It’s been my understanding that the older 2-piece 4-pinion open D70 case was replaced with the lesser 1-piece 2-pinion case in 1975 ( with the exception of anything that had a NoSpin equipped in it ) - has your ‘79 been replaced ?

I cannot confirm that the side gears will interchange between a 2-piece and 1-piece case but it seems logical that they would.
And if they do it might be worth looking at a set of D60 side gears as well for more options - in some diffs between D60/70/80 certain spider and side gears share the same dimensions ( for example: the internals of the P/L diffs will interchange between the three models - maybe the open diffs are similar in sharing components ).

I never researched the open diff stuff though so I can’t confirm that it will work but it’s worth looking into to possibly give more options of availability.

I know this doesn’t directly answer your question but maybe it will help in your search for finding parts that will work.

i would imagine it has. mfg date on ring gear is 1975. ole girl is a bit of a zombie but very functional. that 454 has been opened up a bit and she will out right get down. more than likely the reason the axle splines and drive gears are basically stripped. only had her since march and trying to zip up her reliability.

posting this in case someone else runs into a 4 pinion 2-piece standard open carrier. this will not work *706058X DANA 70 SPIDER GEAR KIT 706058X 35 SPL NON POSI REAR END. not even close. basing off the old spicer pdf i found, sticking to the 2-piece open carrier option and gear ratio i can get 2 possible bom's, both are dual wheel. 603354-5 and 603476-5. one is a mh one is a c20. places ive called so far just say we dont carry that for the hd....only kit listed that doesnt fit. anyone got a good diff place that can tell you..hey yeah get this....or hey yeah you need to go buy a 14 bolt

What is it that you’re saying won’t work? Is that a spider gear kit?

I realize it could be a little harsh for some people in a dually but if you want to keep the 2 piece carrier you could put a locker in it (for that type of carrier it’s a drop in like those for a 14ff)

yes the open 1 piece carrier spider kit will not fit the 2 piece carrier. what is this blck magic you speak of ***(for that type of carrier it’s a drop in like those for a 14ff)***

my carrier is different from a 2 piece carrier for the power lok. my holes arent ramped at the cross shaft. this is my first diff disection so go esy on me for my ignorance
