I am putting a cummins along with a nv4500 into my sqaure, I have been racking my brain with the different ways I can run a nv4500 with a transfercase, I already have in my garage a dodge 29splined nv4500. Here are the different ways along with the pros and cons of each one

1.Dodge nv4500 w/ Dodge 29 splined np205

Pros- Bolts right in, Get to keep the HD 29spline, Prob the easiest way

Cons- Impossible to find a 29splined np205 transfercase, If i found one it would be $$$(only came in 89-93 cummins five speed trucks)

2. Dodge nv4500 w/ Dodge 23 Splined np205

Pros- Bolts right in with proper adaptor, I know where there is one for $300

Cons- Need to buy $100 29-23splined adaptor, have to drive four hours to get it, these are semi hard to come by(89-93 cummins auto trucks)

3. Dodge nv4500 bellhousing w/ chevy nv4500 w/chevy np205

Pros- A dodge nv4500HD(which I have already) is worth the same as a
chevy nv4500/np205 combo, Trans/transfercase bolt right together no issues

Cons- Have to take time to sell the dodge tranny, Have to find a Reliable low mile chevy nv4500 w/np205

4. Dodge nv4500 with chevy Output saft w/ chevy np205

Pros- Peice of cake find a Chevy np205, lower cost

Cons- Have to find a chevy output, have to take nv4500 all apart

Let me know what your opionions are thanks!

Was just about to post the same question I'm interested to see what everyone thinks I have a 1990 first gen cummins 5.9 ready to drop into my 84 k20 but I'd like to run the 5 speed 4500 if possible. I only have the TF727 that came behind the cummins right now and want to do things as cheap as possible while also doing them correctly (5 speed would be stronger and more reliable I assume)

Options 2 and 4 both seem good to me.

I'm going to go with the p-pumped motor, NV-4500, and 29 spline NP205 from a 1st gen dodge. Now to get a truck to put it all in.:rockit:
