Standing in front of the grille facing firewall...
On the left side of the engine , behind the alternator is a flat spot of the cast which MAY hold a stamped "suffix code".
To the right side of the distributor, behind the valve cover, hard to see lol..WILL hold the engine cast number.

You can use your cell phone and stick it back there while taking video with the light on...that will be easy.

Right under the hard fuel line in front of the left valve cover right where the water pump bolts on.

Hay!
What you call me dick for?

Geez. I only wanted to help the noob!

No no no! I was talking about the guy in the video. Not You! Misunderstood. The guy in the video was pointing out some places that can help you identify the engine and kinda being dick about it. That's all I was saying. Sorry if you thought I ment you. Wasn't my intention at all.

Is there anything in particular you are trying to verify?

The 350/290 HP crate is a 350/260 HP crate with a different cam (222/222 @ .050). Its a basic low compression engine (8-8.5), standard performance heads, and a two piece rear main seal. You need a good intake (like you have), headers and dual exhaust to get the 290 HP. It usually works well with about 12 degrees initial timing (or even a little more), and a mechanical advance that brings in about another 18-20 degrees by 2200-2500 rpm.

I've had one in my truck since about 2004, and they are reliable, but nothing exciting for performance. I took out the 222/222 @ .050 cam and replaced it with one similar to the one in 260 hp engine, since its a better match to the low compression heads.

Alright, I’ve been searching for someone knowledgeable to help me with identifying this block. The “displacement” ID on both sides of the block make no sense to me. The casting ID do not scow up anywhere on the web. This a 76 cab (VIN) SB frankentruck
