Convert to 350 vortec

Vortecs are easily identified by the four intake bolts per side vs six on a normal sbc.

I might have been wrong with the year. Maybe it was a 2001 express van where the engine came out of.
It’s casting # is 10243880 and it has a plastic intake manifold.

You sure you don’t want to use the computer efi? It’s obd2 and you can easily swap the components and put a check engine light in

Agree with @xm20k The engine in my nephews truck used an 880 block and had the fuel pump hole drilled. The engine in my 96 Tahoe also has it and the water pump bypass hole in it that seems to be hit or miss too.

Just remembered-unless something changed throughout its run, the factory cam won't have a fuel pump lobe on it

Thank you for bringing up the bypass. Important if they want to use old heads and use the serp drive

Like I said GM did some weird stuff near the end mines a 02 last year and it has the pump boss and was drilled for the pushrod, and I run a carter high flow pump. If the boss is there just not drilled and you're rebuilding it anyway you could maybe have your machine shop drill it and tap the bolt bosses if they aren't done already.

You sure it’s not a replacement block? Gm sells replacement blocks continually since like 2017 for the final revision of engines and that casting is the crate engines iirc

Could be, I bought the block from a machine shop near me that was shutting down just after Covid they were selling off everything that was sitting around and had not been paid for or picked up. It was a 60 over 4 bolt main and when he said $300 I said put it on the back of my ranger. Bought a standard 350 block that was 30 over 2 bolt and a couple sets of heads and a few other items. Kept the 60 over roller and used it for my build sold the other stuff. Wish he would have had a big block in the stuff for sale.

a vortec will have a roller cam, make sure you use a melonized distributor drive gear, there's other options but that's the gm parts one, use a non roller cam gear and it will get eaten by the cam
