Complete Rebuild?

Hello all, I'm new to the site and after posting my intro here is my question. I bought my 83 c10 about a year ago and the old owner stated he had the transmission rebuilt. I even have a receipt for Raybestos parts,so not sure if he did it himself or not. Here is my delima, about 3 months ago the tranny started to leak, to me no biggie as I only drive this thing on th weekends and I pretty busy. I just got around to look under the truck and this "seal" I think is loose between the tranny and the shaft. Now I'm no mechanic but other than the leak the tranny shifts perfectly as long as there is fluid. It's a 700r4. Am I looking at a complete rebuild or just a repair. I don't want to get taken at a transmission shop. The rest of the tranny looks new

Just the driveshaft needs to be pulled. You could probably pop that seal back in with a mallet but since seals are cheap, I'd replace it to be on the safe side.

I was nervous because I thought it was the rear end initially but the fluid was running down the shaft dripping off the rear end

Thats a super easy fix.

If the fluid never got low enough to cause slippage or damage it won't need a rebuild. How ever you will need to remove the drive shaft to replace it. Very Simple

The guy probably lubed it to slide it in. lol make sure the transmission and new seal are nice and clean and dry before installing them. Once the seal is installed then you can lube up the rubber lip with some ATF before reinstalling the drive shaft
