Just depends on what brand/size you're lookin for. I always order my big mud tires from National Tire & Wheel, but when I wanted 33s for my truck years ago I ordered from Tire Rack. Summit carries tires too, you just have to figure out what you want then start comparing. Also you should sign up for email newsletters from NT&W, Summit, etc. NT&W has free shipping weekend about once a month, you can save a ton of money just on that. Lately it's been $60 shipping on tire orders over $250 which is still pretty good for a set of tires that might weigh 100 pounds a piece. But you only find out about those deals by being on their mailing list, and sometimes they will post it on facebook too.

I hear Discount Tire is pretty reasonable too.

honestly I would check local, everywhere I checked online was ok until the shipping cost, that was sky high.

I would say check tire rack and check summit.

If you aint skeered or recap/retreads try treadwright.

me? too skeered to try em.

Me too. It doesn't help that they really aren't that much cheaper than a new tire.

I seen those recap sites. I wouldn't mind trying them because I only drive around town a mile or two at a time. Never hit the highway that much at all. But I think they are illegal to use as a steer tire.

They're really illegal? I've never heard that....

They are illegal on the steer axle for CDL vehicles, that I know. I don't know about passenger cars or light trucks.

I gotcha. I guess cuz they're worried that the tread will come flying off at speed?

I guess because it's a steer tire and there is more chance of losing control than on a drive or follow axle.

exactly and it is very true my old man was a service manager for years at the local tire place. He said they sure were illegal to use on the steer axle, he also said alot of the times they are not used on a drive axle, so basically trailers only.

I do have to agree with him and the above, if you only offroad, hunt, or around town I'd give em a shot, but alot of highway or towing/hauling, no too afraid.

As for being cheaper some are, cheapest I could find some 315's online was around $200 a tire. Brand new.

Well, I was thinking about going back to stock size, 235/75-15's from the current 31x10.50-15's and am shopping around.
