So my 85 k10 wiring is a disaster from the previous owner, you'll laugh when you see it. But I want to clean it up.
First question is how does the power get from the battery to the starter, directly between the two, or from batt to firewall junction block then to the starter? I've seen it drawn both ways.

And can someone tell me what's the proper route for the wire to physically run, Right now it just drapes from battery to engine.

Mine has a couple of holes in the inner fender for cable clamps. On the positive terminal you should have two cables going into the post clamp. One lighter gauge wire charging from the alt. and one heavier gauge going straight to the starter. There are other configurations, but that one is pretty typical.

The most important thing is to keep the positive cables away from any chaff points.
