I have a 1986 Chevy k20 has a 350, Hedman headers 1-5/8, Holley contender intake, dart II heads and a hydraulic flat tappet cam 288/298, lift is .444/.466 and the rpm range is 1600-5200, lobe separation is 112. The truck is more of a weekend driver but I also go mudding. It had the old Quadrajet on it but that ended up crapping out. Was wondering which carb would be best for what I use the truck for. Was looking at holleys(has a sale on a 650cfm brawler till March 7th) or remanufactured quadrajets but didn’t know, thanks

Don't know about particular applications but whatever carb you decide on should have these 6 letters on the fuels bowls, H O L L E Y!!! JM2CW

Quadrajet x2. In addition to Cliff, Mountain Man and Quadrajet Power are options. I’m essentially talking about a cottage reman and not a sweatshop reman that you buy at the store.

I have to agree to go with the Q-jet! I thought I was able to do an excellent job of setting up the Q-jets using the "ROE" book for the last 35 years, I did an okay job I know know this after getting the book by Cliff Ruggles and following it to a "TEE" Follow his directions for the APPLICATION and engine internals. Buy the book then go on line and ASK Cliff what the best settings for your engine should be!! He is very easy to communicate with and IS willing to share his knowledge to make your carb work right for you.... You will NOT be sorry you took this path!

For the intended use, I'd go with a Holley 670 Truck Avenger. Easy to tune for various conditions and also does well with bouncing and off-camber situations.

Just send your old one to Mountain Man Fuel and Carb in Hacket, AR. They professionally remanufacture it to the specs you want, and they do a fantastic job with it. It’s $200 plus return shipping for a standard reman that includes primary throttle bushing. They probably charge more if you want it hopped up, but I’d call them and ask. They did a great job for me.

My quadrajet on my burban has been starting great in sub zero temps, like -50 windchill lol. The 79 has always started perfect no matter the weather or temp, has always had a quadrajet. I’ve personally never exprerienced fuel cut out issues, I’ve done some pretty steep **** lol

I think it took them a week, but if you call on the phone, they’ll tell you up front or should be able to. I paid them via PayPal. I’m not soliciting, by the way, but this is who I have experience with. I also know that they check for readability from the get go and tell you if the carb’s no good. The only thing I know of that’ll ruin it is overtorqueing/improper torquing that warps the base or a crack or some kind of big damage in the body. Most everything else is fixable.
