305 won’t idle and won’t stay on unless given throttle, could it be the timing ? Because the engine sounds very funny, I already also tightened down the idle screw on the carb and carb recently just had a rebuild. Please help !!!!!!!

It could be the timing. You’d need to check. Does it have the factory ESC distributor, or is it using one with a vacuum advance? If the base timing is less than 0* BTDC with your advance unplugged, that’s not doing you any favors. 5* BTDC would be a better spot to try. Otherwise, I’m suspecting the carb. Has it ran right since the carb was rebuilt? What carb?

Did you talk real sweet to it and ask nicely?

I'd try that first!

Maybe go to AutoZone and ask them to scan the computer?
I think they do it for FREE.
