It got rather cold tonight (in the 20's) and on my way home my speedo would climb normally until about 40-45 MPH and then double the speed. As this happened, it got a nasty buzzing sound coming from the back side of it. Once I slowed to below 45 MPH, the buzzing would stop and the speedo would function normally again.

It has been working fine with an occasional bouncing needle. I do not believe this is cable related as it would have an opposite effect. I'm thinking a gear inside the speedo has slipped.

Opinions? Thanks!

It's most likely the cable binding.

There was just another thread about this. Questions like this make me feel old and I don't think I deserve that yet, lol.

Anyway, my personal thoughts are this: It's cold weather, it's a cable driven speedo, deal with it :)

Sure! I'll have fun pretending I'm driving 90 MPH at 45 MPH!

Nah, gonna dive into it this weekend, hopefully.

Ain't it fun to be driving somewhere between 45 and 65, i shot graphite down my cable and doped up the gears, some day i'll put some on the gear box on the trans.

I have just been using my speedo app on my phone. However it is loud and annoying when it is going on.
