I’m finishing up the rear drum brakes on my 75 Blazer and was looking for the metal plugs used to cover the adjusting screw hole in the drum. Does anybody make these? I assume the rubber plugs for the backing plate would be a bad idea for the drum.

When I worked at the shop, I had a stash of them. Got no idea what happened to them though, I may have left them behind.

Well, I'll be. I assumed a rubber plug would work but this is from a 1980 shop manual.

On the left side I found a metal plug, installed in the backing plate for some reason. But at least I have a starting point to find some.

I've got rubber ones on my rear. I had that brake drag problem and they didn't even get a little bit crunchy. They're still good.

The rubber plug would likely melt on a long and hard stop.
Ya but have you seen his rig?
Unlikely he’s cooking the brakes down a hill. And if he does, new plugs are $3 a piece and the least of the issues that day!

Agreed. But the fact that I've seen his ride tells me that he doesn't need plugs at all, because there ain't ever going to be any dirt or moisture getting in there, lol.

Well, there is that to consider :rotflmao:

Just wasn’t sure if drums would melt a rubber plug or not, as the service manual clearly says use metal plugs.

Those look exactly like the metal plugs I found on in the backing plate. Not sure what those holes are even for as they don’t provide access to the adjusters or anything else I can see.

If the drum is rotated down the holes should line up with the star wheel. If they don't then that is weird. I can't tell as my drums still have the plugs in them.

The holes in the drum work as you describe @Goldie Driver, providing access to the adjuster. It was the plugged holes in the backing plate I was referring too. Maybe they allowed you to check brake some wear?
