Get a radiator shroud. If your fan keeps spinning when you shut the motor off hot, the thermostatic clutch is bad. Can’t over stress how important it is to have the shroud in place to cool effectively.

I replaced my stock radiator with a cold case as well. Beautiful unit. I think they make sizes for both stock configurations (19.5 and 21.5” tall).

I made the mistake of buying one with a 1.75” lower outlet. Don’t do that unless you want to go your own way in getting a lower hose. All the stock replacement hoses for the lower outlet are 1.5” (the water pump end will still be 1.75” but finding one with both ends 1.75” is unobtanium).

The quality is there 100 percent. They even stamp the tanks to look stock so you can paint them black and they will blend in nicely.
If you zoom in on my picture you can see the Gates part number on my hose, it’s a 1.75”. I think it’s from a G van IIRC

I’ll be dipped, there it is. After all the digging, the time spent on Rock Auto, parsing through websites, there it is. I’m going to save that on my truck file and I’ll replace that cobbled together hose I have on mine. Appreciate it!

I bought and returned at least a dozen hoses at O’reiley before my dad found that one in the Gates catalog, I think he looked through the catalog for days before finding that and a few other options

As much as a I love the quality of Cold Case (it is absolutely beautiful) the salesmen that answer the phone know nothing of our struggles. They probably made these radiators for both vans and our trucks, but when I asked them what truck used a 1.75 lower, “um some big blocks did”.

The search engine result for this hose that revealed applications listed nothing but G-vans for this hose, no squares.

I feel like I need to call them and let them know before the next sucker calls out of his mind after having paged through websites and catalogs for way too much time, like we have.

I got about the same help from Griffin when I called.

Went with a cold case as well, fits pretty good. Waiting on the correct mount pads to get it more secured.

I’ve always read the same thing, but never tried it. I believe a mech fan on our trucks call pull close to 8000cfm. The best spal fans are 2000-3000ish cfm each. I’ve also read that you can’t trust most fan’s claimed ratings, but spals or OEM fans tend to pull the most.

That said, Eric’s fan is out of a 2014 2500. Even if it’s only from a gasser, I’d imagine they are rated to gross more than a square, right?
There is no such thing as a 4-core once you go to aluminum. The equivalent thickness 4-core brass radiator is a dual core aluminum. The tubes are squished flat and have internal turbulators in the tube to improve efficiency because the aluminum is inherently less efficient at dissipating heat than brass is.

I have the same fans on my 2011 Suburban, with a super thin LS aluminum radiator, and with a 6.2L LS pulling a 7k lb trailer through mountains passes and 100 degree heat I’ve never had an overheating issue. That’s with a far more restrictive front valance also, because modern Suburbans don’t have the huge opening in front. I can’t imagine having any issues overheating in any situation with this MASSIVE radiator and pretty high power dual fans. Bonus that you can get a new set for $100 and a used GM set from any junkyard for $40.

I have several alloyworks radiators and so far they have been really good. I had to fab custom upper mounts though.

I am 100% sure I do not have a clutch fan. The fan is bolted directly to the water pump pulley with an aluminum spacer. I'll check out your resources and considering, would my best bet be to just install a clutch fan?

Clutch fans are quieter, don’t rob as much HP, but when you get one, watch your temperature gauge! I got a bad one from NAPA, and it was non functioning and almost immediately overheated my truck the first time I drove it in traffic. Save your receipt.

I just looked at your fan Pic. Get that off of there, and replace it with a factory fan,and fan clutch. Or get your electric fans but those flex fans with no clutch, have a reputation for coming apart and hurting people and damaging hoods. IDK how much real risk there is,I won't run a setup like that. I do know that they aren't as efficient as your factory fan and clutch were.

I was looking for incidences of flex fans coming apart there were a bunch, way more than I would have believed or expected. But I stumbled across this little nugget of joy that I told someone on here I try to find. The actual horse power difference between an electric fan and a clutch fan aren't worth the money or effort in my opinion. But the top 2 for horsepower are 487 stock and 494 electric, and IMHO an average clutch fan and shroud will cool the truck just fine, not worth the effort and money for 7 hp which still isnt accurate because an engine dyno isn't going to have the loss from the alternator working, let alone working harder for the electric fans.
