I am rebuilding my bbc 454 and need to know what dome height I need before I go out and buy new pistons. I have 336781 heads with 113cc chambers with a lunati voodoo cam with an advertised duration of 276/284 and lift is .554/.572. I am running a gm factory high rise intake in the mud truck and an edelbrock 750cfm carb. I want to get as close to 10.1 compression on pump gas. Its an automatic t400 and only used in the mud! No street! Im on a budget so pistons have to be cheaper. Estimated hp after rebuild???

Do you need pistons?

What would the cost difference between buying and boring for new domes pistons (not the best for flame travel), vs. keeping your pistons and buying smaller chambered heads?

There are some detailed compression ratio calculators online. They should get you in the ball park. They usually have a section for piston dome. Just keep adding to that volume until you get the compression ratio you want.

There are also dynamic compression ratio calculators online too, if you want to shoot for a theoretically optimal compression/cam combination.
