Hi everyone this is my first post there but been reading and learning for years.

I cant find any info. on the problem im having with wheel hop when the truck is cold.

little info. on the truck, its a stock 1984 k10 with inline 250 6 with newish 33" tires, and sm465 tranny.

The problem is when i start the truck after 2 hours of sitting it will wheel hop in reverse or forward. It will stop after a while but it seems that the rear end whats to rip off the truck?

any ideas??

I think you need to define wheel hop a little better. is it doing mini burn outs like every foot? or is the whole truck lurching? does it do it just from a standing start or also when it's rolling? highdesertranger

thanks for the responses.

the wheel hop is every foot from a stand still for the first to 3 feet. Once moving all is good until i stop again, will do this for the first 5 minutes then goes away until i park the truck for more then 2-3 hour and then it starts wheel hoping again.

so Does that mean its going to get worse? because its only happening for the first 3 minutes of every drive when cold.

My initial response is "Yes". From what I understand, clutch chatter happens from oil or some foreign substance getting on the flywheel which causes it to skip. A worn clutch assembly ( flywheel needs turned/replaced; clutch disc worn; pressure plate worn ) may cause it too. If you replace the clutch, get a matched set, they operate much better than buying the pieces separately. The set will come with the disc and pressure plate and an alignment tool. They cost about $150, and getting the flywheel turned is probably $60. And make sure you don't get grease or oil on the components when you install them. I always spray down the flywheel with brake clean and wipe it down well, same with the pressure plate.

There may be other answers that come in regarding what causes clutch chatter. I know I hate clutch chatter. I want my stuff operating smoothly.

Sounds like your clutch is starting to go.. Either springs, disc, or flywheel.

Oh yeah, with a small brush, paint a thin layer of white lithium grease on the input shaft and a little inside the pilot bushing and the fork where it contacts the throw out bearing. Just a little, it helps with assembly and with clutch action.

More than anything, I'd suggest a saturated clutch disk. Possibly a rear main seal leak?

Wheel hop is almost impossible to be a problem with a 250 6 cyl, so I say the problem is something other than wheel hop for certain. Clutch chatter is the most likely problem.
