Hi,
So i really don't use my ashtray my truck, nor do i ever think i will.
Also, theres a couple switches i want to put somewhere, but dont really want to hack up the dash.

So, i was thinking of taking the ashtray, and putting them on that (Ones a button, not that it matters)

How do you suggest i go about doing this?
Is the ashtray fairly simple to remove & install? Haven't looked at it too closely yet

I was thinking to cut back the inside compartment on the ashtray and cigarrete lighter as far as i needed to fit a switch there and have it fold up fine, then weld a piece of metal over the opening, with holes for the switches.
Any flaws in this/better ideas?

Sounds like a decent idea to me. I have ac upholder that fits in place of the removable tray insert. It is made of wood. Instead of cutting and welding you could probably build a wood insert that fits in the hole to hook the toggles and buttons to, that way you could remove it if you needed to. There is also a post on here somewhere in the interior page where someone did this exact mod you are talking about. I'll look for it and see if I can find it for ya.

I can't figure out how to attach pic of other posts, damn technology. Anyway it's under (has anyone done anything else with ashtray). 3rd page post 39. It has a pic. I can't tell what material is used though but it looks like what you are talking about.

I'm thinking about a mod for the glove compartment. I never use the damn thing and there is plenty of space there. I keep my registration in the storage bag on the door.

Yep, lmc has the same one. Only problem is it doesn't hold most 20 oz bottles unless you remove the plastic ring. If you remove the plastic ring you see the edges of the cut vinyl. It's good for 16 oz water bottles and cans but that's about it.
