I'm new here but I see lots of knowledge available out there. I'm planing on pulling the vent windows off my '84 Silverado so that I can replace the rubber, clean and paint them and replace/repair the hinges since they are loose. I see the brad/rivet at the top henge. I assume I need to cut this so that they will come off....correct me if I'm wrong. After I do everything I need to do to them, do I just get another brad/rivet and re-crimp it? If so, are these available at a parts store? Is there a tool that is specific to the task? Any advice on the hinges would be appreciated too.

Is it absolutely necessary to remove the vent window assembly to do this? Mine were painted on the truck by hand sanding the metal frame and spraying it. I'd bet you could get the same results by brush or roll painting with some Rust Reformer though. And classic parts sells a 2-piece weatherstrip, so maybe it could be changed w/out removal.

My need to remove also comes from the problem that the drivers side is wobbly. My assumption is that there is a worn out mount of some sort that's causing this, otherwise I wouldn't even consider taking it apart..."if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Might get lucky and be able to pull the door panel, tighten the bolts up and not have to take it out. Have you looked in there yet to see what the source of the wobble is? So the frame, window & all is wobbly?

Yep, that's sort of why I'm replacing the rubber. I actually have to square up the window before I can close it (if I open it) and I have to get out of the truck to do that. Kinda discourages closing it at highway speeds.
