As you can see below, there's a bit of an air flow issue.

The shroud is pretty much butted up to the end of the filter. The bottom half of the shrould did not allow much, if any, air in either. On the left you can see than the rad hose wasnt helping and the fuel lines were just in the way. The fuel lines (yellow) will be routed under the new CS144....which is the way they are supposed to be and I will be adjusting the rad hose routing slightly.

That thing is just wedged in there, which is why it looks the way it did (sse pic at bottom). Was probably suffocated to death.

Probably would've been better off just wrapping some panty hose over the TB...lol

The shroud is off and I dont plan on putting it back on....that alone should help tremendously.

I dont know how far left (DS) Ill be able to re-route the filter without interference from the rad hose. Going right (PS) may be my only option. My concern is stability. I need something sturdy enough to withstand some bouncing on the trails, but still needs to be functional.

While it may not be ideal, Im comfortable with it now that the shroud is gone and may just have to run with it in the meantime.

A functional cowl hood is in the immediate future as well. Electric fans are not an option right now.

Pic of old filter before I burried it:

Here is the intake I made for mine with some aluminum pipe, an elbow adaptor from JTR, and a tube and ait cleaner can fromman87 TA.
Retro has it now. I also mounted my IAT sensor in it.

you could try to do something like the k&n filters on the 90s camaros

It would probably have to be sharper bends to avoid the cluch fan but you could avoid having to go around a rad hose or your ac compressor. I dont know how well it would work with the hood/core support on a sb, just tossing out the idea.

I would make up something like that. Something similar could be done using those 80's TA parts, LT1 f-body parts, or LT1 b-body parts.

Why are you removing the fan shroud if you're keeping the clutch fan?

Just brainstorming here. Actually thinking a new rad/dual elect fan set up would be best overall....

If you're staying with OEM parts, I like my Rendezvous fans much better than my Windstar fans. I think I may actually ditch the Windstar fans on the K5.

Run it to the pass side, dump it in front of the battery?

...and try to get more air into the engine bay. Honestly not sure what these are for, but I took them out anyway as it seems like it would help:

Nothing behind them Im worried about getting wet and Im sure it will increase the amount of air comming into the engine.

yup, i cut that sheild off on mine, and had it cramming air right into the TA air cleaner. I used my stock 86 v belts, and the aluminum tube part of my intake would hit the alt bracket a little....no biggy. Are you running the L 98 brackets?

Hard to say because I didnt do teh swap. I just know for a fact the alt/bracket are not. My guess is yes for the rest.

Between O-reillys and Spetre Ill be able to piece my own intake up....just not an expense I want to make right now. That will be its own project here real soon.

I did find that the Ferd 4.6L boot works well, Ill use that, an elbow, an extension and a couple fo copulers to turn it down.
