HotRod asked me to post up this upgrade. Its a pretty straight forward upgrade. The source website in slide 1 has the information. Hope it helps some of ya'll out.

This upgrade was done on an '87 K5, SB 350 TBI.

I'd like to add a couple things, if you don't mind.

1. The little ignition source wire should have a resistor in line if you have a gauge and no idiot light. I'm not sure why, but there is some good reason for it. However, I did this swap a long time ago and just plugged it right in like you did, the alt still works fine in that car.

2. The alt will not bolt up if you have a big block from the early 80's or later, due to the 1-piece mounting bracket. Bracket modification will be necessary.

:waytogo: Great Info. A nice update for anyone running a hot stereo system with amps, or several off-road lights.

Thanks for taking the time Mike. :High 5:

Very nice info here, thanks. :waytogo:

Mike I really like the way you take the time to put your write ups in those page things, it makes it 10 times easier to understand and look at. What program do you use to do it like that?

Microsoft Power Point, I use it pretty extensively at work so its no too bad to do it that way. I save it in .JPEG format which saves each slide as a picture and upload it into Photobucket, then post it.

Glad you like it.

Excellent write-up.

I have a set of brackets from a 9C1 Caprice I plan to use and an alternator from a 3800 Dustbuster van.
