Not sure why they used them but they make doing a motor swap into a tight engine compartment really easy since you dont have to clearence the firewall as much if at all.

So its still an hei just with an external coil? Never knew they existed till now, defs learn alot on here, I wonder what was the deciding motion between a standard hei and the external at the factory, my 90 burb almost identical to 89's and my 89 stepside both tbi 350 powered had the standard hei cap

Must be a Canadian thing....Eh?

Lol must be, from what I remember most the trucks.I've had have come from the.Baltimore assembly plant, maybe its they're thing haha, my current 79 is forsurely from that plant as I have the build sheet for the truck
