I'm having trouble reinstalling the y pipe on my 87 V10. The pipe after the y is not fitting in the notch in the transmission crossmember, it's outboard towards the driver side slightly. Has anyone ever had to take the transmission crossmember off, install the y pipe, then put the crossmember back? It didn't seem terribly bent when I took it off. Not sure why I can't get it back on.

Might now work in your situation, but you may need some speed dents. I paid some guys to install a lift kit on my truck, and half way through the install, they said that I needed to take my rig to an exhaust shop to get the exhaust modified in order for the lift kit parts to fit.

What?

I went under the truck and added some speed dents to the exhaust pipe using a hammer. It took 2 minutes, and then the lift kit install proceeded.

Can you upload some pics of your exhaust issue?

I had to cut the exhaust on my 87 when installing the lift. The front shaft intersects directly with the crossover pipe. It's not terribly close to the crossmember where it would need removal in order to install the crossover though.

I didn't read anything about you lifting the truck. If it's just a remove and replace, it has to go back together, just needs to be messed with until it all lines up.

When I R&R the motor in my 87v10 I left the Y pipe behind. It was still a pita to get back together. As said, a lot of fiddling and a 12 pack should do the trick.
