8 lug hub with 6 lug caliper

I’m putting an 8 lug FF in a 83 k5

Eventually want a d60 but for the time being I just need 8 lugs so I’m not wearing two different shoes

Can I use my existing calipers and backing plates and just get 8 lug hubs and rotors from a k20?

Calipers, yes. Backing plates, no.

3/4 ton brakes use a larger diameter rotor so the bracket is larger. The caliper is basically the same and will mount on the 3/4 ton bracket.

I would bolt 2 rotors together face to face,1 6 lug ,1 8 lug , Now look at both. Is there enough meat to transfer punch and redrill? Remember the hub holds the wheels and the studs,the rotor is just a captured spacer. If the rotor offset is the same it seems to me this would let you reuse your 6 lug rotors,calipers and brackets. IDK just thinking. I have redrilled other rotors where I was lucky enough the hub fit tight in the new rotor to locate,then used the hub as my drill pattern,again used transfer punches to center hole posiitions

The backing plates are what I want to avoid buying only place I see them is eBay for stupid money.

None of the bone yards near me seem to have proper donors

Are the backing plates 2 piece in the 80s? I have a 3/4 ton 70s backing plate for a photo but its one piece, quite the large piece
I remember smoething about the weight reduction efforts in the 80s had made them lighter

Mind you, 1980s K5 may have come with low drag disc brakes ,which means a different caliper and master cylinder , no idea if the mounting is the same.
Low drag means that the calipers seal retracts the piston after releasing , and i wouldnt know if that meant new seals or new caliper design.

Im unaware if the 3/4 ton trucks used low drag in 83 or not, but I know that it was an option beyond the introduction to have one or the other , so there may be differences there

note the dana 44 and 10 bolt are very similar, and im assuming we are talking about the front axle only, so the knowledge of my 70s dana 44 should translate to the 80s 10 bolt.
