I need some help. Forgot to take a picture when I pulled it apart and most of the online info isn’t the same style.

78 k10 corporate 8.5 front axle. Auto hubs. I have the bearings set and lock nut tight and cannot remember the direction the gear goes or the order. First time messing with straight front axles. I tried searching and couldn’t find this setup so had to ask.

I know the snap ring is last. The thin cap and gear and spring is where I’m lost.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, turn the clip over.
Spring seat with the lip out, then the spring. Next the splined drive piece with the small part out so you can grab it if it gets stuck, last the clip. Study the clip, one side will be flat and the other side will be slightly rounded. The flat side goes out to hold the load. That is the same on all clips.

Thank you! I’ll give it a try here in a bit.
Do you ever put a little silicon on the outer cover mating surface? It had some on it when pulled. Figured a small coat wouldn’t hurt as long as it doesn’t get in the hub itself.

FYI, you have “drive flanges” not auto locking hubs. Drive flanges were used with full time 4wd up to ‘79.

I don’t mean to split hair but true “auto locking hubs” (which could switch from free wheeling to locked based on torque input) were used ‘81+, these were a very different mechanism.

Your moon cap should be a press fit, if it’s not I’m pretty sure Spicer still makes them.
