4180 conversion from 4 speed

I’m looking for some guidance. I have a 82 1 ton k30 dually. Looking to convert from 4 speed to auto transmission. I have a donor automatic cab. What do I need to do a 4180 swap. Transfer case trans crossmember etc. Will 4180 transmission and transfer case and crossmember hook up easily?

1) 4L80, that’s not a one.

2) unless you got the trans/tcase/crossmember from a 1991 square body, the crossmember is not going to bolt up and the tcase front output is on the wrong side.

3) the transmission will require a stand alone controller or a manual valve body.

So I guess, np205 transfer case. I’m aware that I will need a controller. I have a sniper 2 still in the box, Holley makes a compatible controller. Anyone have a source for a crossmember?

I swapped a 4L80e and NP205 in with my big block swap. I used the Adapter from off road design and I just bolted the cross member up to the trans/transfercase and then drilled new holes in the frame where it landed. I have a k10 with flat cross member.

For shifter and dip stick, look into Lokar products. I swapped out a TH400 for 4L80E on my '85 Suburban C20 6.2 diesel and had to deal with that issue. Was a pretty strait-forward fix, but an added cost.
I moved my crossmember (likely different from a manual shift?) back and drilled new holes to accommodate the extra length of the 4L80E. Also had to shorten the driveshaft. Measure that new driveshaft distance with the truck on the ground once you've swapped transmissions.
Swapping out transmissions made a night and day difference- well worth the effort.

Make sure your Holley controller,has capability to modulate transmission line pressure. Otherwise you'll also need to do 48mod or modify the pump and valve body for durability running full line pressure. I've posted the mods on here before in case you need the info. It is somewhere on our site.

I swapped to a 4L80 an np205 from a 700r4 an np208. I have a video up on YouTube with some info that may help. Just google 4l80 and np205, should pop up.
