I bought a set of long tubes from summit for $120 they fit really good. Shouldn't have to fight them, just a little tricky moving and they slide right in. I suggest getting the gasket that have open bolt holes on the outside bolt holes. Makes it a ton easier installing them. Just put 2 bolts in and drop the gasket. No struggle!

I ran long tubes on my 79, the collectors were really close to the front leaf and i would hear a little tapping every once in a while (till i beat it with a BFH) besides that no problems

I have a set of Hooker competition headers in my suburban, full length long tube. They have the 2 1/2" collectors. Great low end torque which is what you really need in big and heavy vehicles. I believe the primaries are 1 5/8". They had absolutely no fitment issues. But they do go in from the bottom so a lift would be nice. I just used a jack and jack stands. Btw my truck is 2wd with 350/700r4

I run a set of shorty header for a 96 Tahoe with the youth pipe for the same. 3' single exhaust through a borla muffler exiting in front of the rear tire. Works and sounds good. Had to move one e-brake cable guide.

they all are easy to install ( long tubes) after you get the 30 year old manifold off LOL
take your time, those 30 y/o bolts that have heated and cooled everyday are super soft.
