3 or 4 cylinder engine with a 8 or 6 cylinder Dwell meter.

Trying to tune up a JDM mini truck with a carb and points distributor.
My analog dwell meter is for 6 or 8 cylinders. Would I half the 8 cyl. reading for a 4 banger ? Would that be the same for a 3?

Double the reading for half the cylinders. 8cyl x2 = 4cyl

same situation for waste spark engines iirc unless one is somehow only triggering off higher energy sparks (wasted spark on the exhuast stroke is much lower energy than the needed one), but thats more tachometer than dwell meter, for all i know.
