Got my ticket, hope to see you there. The salt flats are unlike anything I have ever seen, stark and beautiful and the surrounding country is great for off road fun as well. Would love to see some "SQUARES" there.

Nice! I was a founding member of the Electric land speed record team for Embry-Riddle when I was a student there. I think they were hoping to be ready for an inaugural run this year, but they ended up having to delay it to 2022.

They are shooting to set the record at 250mph in the E-2 class.

My buddy from here, George Poteet, had a fire in the Speed Demon on Monday. "ONLY" ran 388 MPH at the 1st mile, then pulled off..........
They are hoping to break 500 MPH at this event.
George is 70ish years old and has gone faster than 400 MPH at least 50 times.

I have seen him run a few times. His cars are a work of art, finished to the inth. Last time I saw him run, was over 400 mph. Also saw Mickie Thompsons son run the four engine streamliner, set a record at the time 420ish I was five feet away when they started the engines, gives me goose bumps. Waite till you see a big rig with two superchargers and four big turbos, on a twin detroit, all you can see at the three mile is a black plume of exhaust smoke, the as it gets closer you can finally see the truck, and it is fast! You that see this, talk it up, get out there!!

Several of the car club guys from here have gone to B-ville with George over the years.
Maybe I'll get there one day !

George ran 466+ MPH yesterday.

Car has a 7 speed Liberty transmission.

This was last year, when he ran 481 mph. The fastest ever for a wheel driven, piston car.

@PeteJr,

Absolutely incredible!!! Man the thing looks like a jet plane with no wings. I wonder just how far it would travel if you did put wings on it? I know, silly question. Okay, serious question: He wasn't satisfied with 466. So what did he have to do to run 477 just mash on the gas peddle a little more? Why aren't they floor boarding it all the time anyway? They actually aren't just giving it some gas are they? I would be shoving the gas peddle through the firewall! And what engine is he running in the gold jet?

@FireTruck1984,

Aren't you retired? Why aren't you out there? What else do you have to do but do a once in a life time adventure? Take a ton of pictures and come home with something to tell the wife and kids! That is, unless your wife would want to go with you. But if she's anything like mine she'd be in town shopping while you were out on the salt all day. She'd be saying, "I don't want to go out there with all that noise and all that bright sun and, yuk, salt?"

From what I know about those cars, especially George's........ Obviously it runs on salt (like sand or even ice) it takes a long time to get it to "hook up" as his car is about 2,500 HP. They switched from a 5 speed transmission to a 7 speed to help with that. Some runs are better than others and it's IIRC a 9 mile course. wind speed, temp and humidity definitely affects each run.
They had engine trouble in the record attempt at the end of the week. Plus another driver was "licensing" in the car with a smaller engine.

I remember George talking about the 450/460 MPH run here..........
If you look closely, the 1st chute is ripped off and he has to pull the 2nd one.
He said that was more terrifying than the run it's self.........
