Good Afternoon,

Huge disclaimer, I'm not a mechanic so please dumb down the advice. I've had a 1987 Suburban for the past 6 years and I use it for a beach truck and to tow my boats. A few weeks ago, it threw a rod and I've been contemplating putting a new/used engine in it. I know the current engine is a 5.7 TBI 350 and I've found a few of those on Craigslist and Facebook. Is there anything else that could be swapped into it that would be recommended? Could a Vortec engine go in it? Any help or guidance would be appreciated, this truck has a lot of sentimental value.

Thanks,

Matt

An HO350 longblock crate motor would do you fine.

I have one in my 89 burb.

Take the crate motor, remove your current motor's v belt system, the intake with everything on it as is, and your exhaust manifolds. (and smog stuff if it applies to your state) and bolt it onto the crate motor. Very little hassle.
