Im thinking of starting a 5.3 swap into my 1977 K20 longbed. I have many questions but the first thing on my mind is what it will take to make the engine mate to my transmission?(4speed manual)

just to mention i have a friend that completed a 5.3 swap into his 2wd 72 chevy, so i at least have some of his experince on my side.

I have seen tons of these swaps using 4L60E trans but none using a manual, if anyone has info or links to other build threads it would be appreciated

I currently have a 5.3 with sm465 in my truck. It is easy and straight forward. there are two ways to go about it. the bottomless pocket way or the im a broke joke way. i went the broke joke route. Trans Dapt motor mounts, made a clutch package instead of buying a kit already made. 04 gto flywheel and a disc & pressure plate that is ten spine made for the truck factory. The crank it 0.4 of an inch closer to the block then older style so i had to use a bit of the adjustment up in the linkage but it works great. Any questions just ask.

do you happen to have the part number for the motor mounts? i looked on the transdapt website but didnt see anything that jumped out at me for this application...

also where did you source the 04 GTO flywheel?

and you say a factory clutch for a 77 chevy works?

The transdapt part # 4572 As far as the flywheel i got it from a local corvette shop but your auto parts store can order it for you new or used i believe. I used the stock 77 stock 10 spline disk and pressure plate. I had to use a longer throw out bearing i gotta look for that part number its a stock bearing. Its the longest one gm used.

Those motor mounts look like the are just flat plates. Is that the case? If so I will just make my own on my cnc milling machine:)

There are three different lengths of throwout bearing carriers.I think the bearings themselves were the same,I could be wrong,it has been many years since I have had to work on a clutch,at least for these light duty applications.
Mostly "Pull" clutches is what I played with.

Just thought I'd show a picture of one of the tools I have at my disposal. Im a cnc machinist by trade, this is a much smaller mill that I have at the house vs. The ones I use at work. Im looking to start producing some products to sell but my main limitation has always been coming up with good ideas. I can design and build with the best of them. I know the ls conversions are gaining popularity right now and would like to focus on that platform to start with. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated and you may even get a free part out of it if I can make it take off. Not trying to steal anyone's ideas here and I wouldn't be opposed to working with someone as well. I think if I can get an idea going and turn a little revenue it might help coax the wife to letting me move ahead with my ls conversion. You know "for testing purposes"
