im building a street/strip truck. Will be between 750 to 1000 horsepower. Truck currently has a 10 bolt. My truck is a 1986 C10 stepside. I’ve found a few 12 bolt rear ends out of mid to late 1970s chevy truck. My question is will this be a direct bolt in? Will I need to make any modifications?

Unfortunately, a truck 12 bolt will not be any stronger. You may get away with building your current axle though. Aftermarket shafts, posi carrier and aluminum diff cover with bearing supports. With that much power, you may not have enough traction to hurt that combo.

Just did axle flip on it today, and have CalTracs to install. I guess I’ll just keep the 10 bolt and see what I can do with it. Do these rearends have c clips? If so, I’ll get different axles, carrier, and c clip eliminator. This is my first performance build. Learning experience

Yeah, they have c-clips. But if you are swapping to disc brakes then eliminating the c-clips is not necessary.

If your going to run slicks or sticky DOT tires with that much HP. You with probably have to pony up for a 9" or Dana 60.
