    10 bolt upgrade options

The 8.5 corporate rear is plenty for your rig. All sorts of aftermarket options. You can order drop in axles, gears etc. Whatever you want. You are leaving a lot on the table with 3.08s with the od trans. 3.73s or 4.11s would be more than drivable with the 700r4.

It'll drill easy enough. Lace up your boots and fix it

    Overheating

It's not going to steam if the water pump isn't turning. What you had happen is about worst case scenario. I'd be surprised if you get out of it with it replacing head gaskets or a cracked head.

Oil Galley Plug Tool? 1/8” Plugs Gen IV BBC

You're talking the 4 or 5 that run along the oil gallery just above the pan rail? Just drill them. The socket rarely works. It'll break right off. I worked in a machine shop for quite a while and we rebuilt 100s of BBCs. The plugs are soft and shallow, super quick to drill out. Tap an...

    delete or not??? emissions

You'll likely eliminate some vacuum leaks. Is it a standard q-jet or is it a compu carb? The compu carb will have wires going to it. 2 plugs

    delete or not??? emissions

You'll gain next to nothing yanking that crap out. The anemic 120 horse 305 will go to 123 horse. You have much bigger fish to fry.

Does 1984 K5 have an oxygen sensor?

If it has the crappy computer controlled q-jet it'll have an oxygen sensor in one of the exhaust manifolds.

To PCV or not to PCV

The vacuum pump you're thinking of isn't for ventilation. It's a crucial part of a dry sump oil system to control oil. It is not part of the pcv system.

    Oil leak

With a 6.2 you'll have to learn to love oil leaks. Power wash/ steam clean and then watch for where it starts to leak. You'll likely find you have multiple leaks.

Smog Pump and Egr valve delete

It's closed under WOT and you would never know it's open when you're headed to the nail salon for your pedicure. Trust me i know what it does and how it works. Lots of misinformation out there.

Smog Pump and Egr valve delete

Yeah you'll need to turn the egr valve off. The ecm throws extra timing in when the valve is open to compensate for the loss of vacuum. For what it is worth you won't gain anything by tossing that stuff. The EGR doesn't operate under WOT and the air pump is harmless.....

    improved MPG

I get 17 with my 77 camper special. It also has a duramax and an allision though. With a proper tune you should see mid to low teens. You have to drive easy though.

    PieceOfQ-JetWontStart

Q-jets are easy to rebuild. Make sure it is clean and set every damn measurement that comes in the directions. Set it for your application as the directions state and it'll run great.

    Catalytic converters

He won't hurt any valves like that. That's an old wives tale. Every race car out there is running open headers.. Very little to be gained by cutting the cats out. Just a harder time trying to pass inspection really. As mentioned the turbulence created by the air bouncing around the empty cat...

    Planning summer small block build

Google static vs. dynamic compression ratio. Being a heavy truck and your want to run a low stall converter you don't want a cam with much overlap. You'll need all the low end torque you can get.

    Planning summer small block build

You are not figuring the deck height in your calculations. The pistons are probably .030 in the hole.

    Planning summer small block build

The problem is you can't just throw the heads together and call it good. The seats need to be cut to the valves and the guides have to be installed properly first. Then the valve heights need to be set and then the springs need dialed in.. your adding at least a grand in parts and machine...

If your blowing caps off it sounds like your building pressure in the cooling system from a bad head gasket or cracked head.

    Planning summer small block build

No factory roller cam 400s. You'll have a nice running engine with the vortec heads. A couple things to consider though. Out of the box the vortech heads need work to run a high lift cam. You can get bee hive springs to help some. 400s used a short rod from the factory. Building a 6" rod...

    6.2 Easy?

If you want to buy a reman engine you ought to just get a 6.5 and be done with it. There is a ton of aftermarket support for these boat anchors. They are still in production for the military. These engines were used in a lot of medium duty applications and fleet rides. There is an aftermarket...

    6.2 Easy?

You'll need the diesel governor in the trans. The gas torque converter will work with the 6.2. You'll need to figure in a second battery as well. You'll also need new front springs. That 6.2 is a heavy turd. Which brings up the next point, why would you swap in a 6.2?

Second Trans failure in 200 miles

What are you running for a converter? Did you replace the converter? Was the cooler cleaned out? Losing the speedo is odd. Did the cable come off and puke the fluid?
