    Suburban rear rockers

Lol, it was literally the first vehicle after the entrance to the wrecking yard, definitely a lucky find!

    Suburban rear rockers

Over the last few weeks I've been working on taking apart the donor panels. The first one I took all the way apart, did a lot more drilling and cutting than necessary but oh well. Took apart the second one yesterday and managed to remove the inner and outer rear rockers as an assembly but will...

    Suburban rear rockers

Inners are gone too in the back. One of the front inners is also pretty shot.

    Early OBS dash swap

A busy work week means I didn't make progress here, but did snap pictures while messing with some bodywork, so here's what I managed to strip. I'm pretty sure the glovebox is in the dirt beside the donor, that's where the center vent cover was. I grabbed the 2 piece radio and the digital hvac...

    Suburban rear rockers

Ok, another update, picked up the sections from the wreckers yesterday. There is some crustiness in a couple of spots, including a hole near the back on one side, but the majority, including the insides, are clean and solid. I had hoped to be able to only partially disassemble the donors and put...

    Early OBS dash swap

Thought I had posted this previously. Beginning the work of swapping my 90 'Burb dash for an early OBS dash. I think the donor for the mockup was a 91 pickup. Pretty well optioned at any rate, had digital hvac controls and the factory tape deck/EQ in the center of the dash. What I want to...

    Suburban rear rockers

An update: found a solid shell at my local wreckers, they're going to cut the whole inner/outer/backers off both sides for me. Depending on how they look inside I may attempt replacing the whole mess as an assembly, if that's possible. Anyone familiar enough to know if it is? Would have been OK...

What have you done to your square lately??

Finally got some traction this weekend. I had asked about OE style Suburban rockers in another thread after buying inners and outers from LMC and discovering the outers stop before the bends at each end. Went to the local wreckers yesterday and they had a pretty solid truck, had screw holes from...

    Found this at Copart Spokane

Someone did get it for the buy now price, maybe we'll see it cruising around here

    Found this at Copart Spokane

I'm guessing it's a Copart thing. Seen more than a few in Spokane and CDA. If I could have added this one to the fleet for peanuts it would have been nice, especially seeing as it has rockers. Really only on there looking for a donor Yukon or Suburban to steal the powertrain for my '90.

    Found this at Copart Spokane

I'm in Idaho, the auction is in Washington, apparently the general public can buy RV's, watercraft and vehicles without a clean title - so a bill of sale or salvage title would be OK. Only dealers and brokers can buy clean title cars in WA. At least that's what Copart says after I paid the...

    Found this at Copart Spokane

This one is for sale at Copart Spokane. Unfortunately the Socialist Republic of Washington requires a license to buy clean title cars; maybe one of you guys has the ability to buy it? I can't. https://www.copart.com/lot/63769663/clean-title-1988-gmc-suburban-v15-conventional-wa-spokane

    Suburban rear rockers

That's pretty lame. Has anyone worked around it with other panels that sorta fit? Maybe I need a parts truck, like the 3/4 ton big block truck at my in-laws house in Inglewood....

Finally have this girl home, now what?

On the steering: I had to replace the whole drag link, both ends plus the sleeve, wasn't a terrible job. I was also on 16 year old tires, replaced those yesterday and it felt like I'd had the front end rebuilt. Have a small amount of play in the steering box, but amazed at the difference new...

What have you done to your square lately??

Didn't do much for a while, Mrs has been having health problems, they discovered no platelets in her blood. I've started back in, new 31s from Les Schwab yesterday and a clean bill of health for brakes, steering and suspension, which is mind blowing as the tires they replaced were installed in...

    Suburban rear rockers

Are there any places which sell OE style panels? My rear rockers are shot, inside and out and I bought the inners and outer from LMC but the rot extends into the C-pillar curve and the panels I bought obviously won't cover that. Also trying to discern if there's something been cut out of the...

LMC exhaust for '90 4x4 Suburban?

I didn't go any further, decided that until I get another engine I would just have straight pipes. Had a local shop just put 3 inch pipe from the Y pipe back for now. Eventually will be putting an LS3 in it.

Etch primer and sun baked 'surface rust'

Thanks for taking the time to snap these, really illustrates things quite well. I see the kleen strip and ospho brands for sale, I think I'll definitely be using some inside the truck, there's a few spots that next to impossible to sand, complex shapes and so on. After doing the test patch on...

Etch primer and sun baked 'surface rust'

Had a read through this, pretty interesting. My brief bodyshop stint was more than a decade ago, the guy I worked for had just switched to water based paint, and that was impressive stuff, didn't know about the roll on primer though - seems like there would be fewer variables to manage.

Etch primer and sun baked 'surface rust'

I think the previous generation burb looks great in green with a white roof. For mine I'm just trying to treat problem areas while I save for a full paint job or equipment to do it myself - the few shops I've talked to said they'd want 30k to paint it. I'm as allergic to paint and bodywork as...

Etch primer and sun baked 'surface rust'

I did a bit of tinkering between Sunday things today. The primer I have is self etching probably should have spent more time getting scratches out of the steel, took the surface rust off with 120. Did note that the silver basecoat is barely attached to the primer where it's not obviously...

Etch primer and sun baked 'surface rust'

Best advice so far. I did a brief stint in a body shop just south of Astoria many years ago and I think that experience is clouding my thinking on this. How exactly can I make it worse? :)) Not sure where you are in WA but I've seen what happens to cars on the WA coast and we're in the...

    Body control module type question

Thanks everyone for the replies. Not getting notifications so didn't see these until now. I think I'm going to have to start with a list of functions as going in vague is fine when you're tinkering, but I don't want to live with a half finished rats nest. Thanks for the product suggestions too...

    Vent window handle replacement

I recently did this too and had to drill the roll pin out and even then it was a fight to extract everything.
