    1985 K20 350 Lost Spark While Driving

UPDATE: My buddy volunteered to come put an extra set of eyes on the truck. Discovered that I suck at life and I do indeed have ample spark! Just not in the right order??? Either I screwed up putting the distributor shaft back in the engine block or paid no attention to what the frick order the...

    1985 K20 350 Lost Spark While Driving

Unacceptable!! Let's hope that's not my case this time... Updates to come! I'm traveling out of town for work for the next week beginning tomorrow so next weekend will be the next time I can visit it

    1985 K20 350 Lost Spark While Driving

Now I see why you were so adamant about making sure I was sticking to the basics! I did put a brand new fuel pump and all-new lines in when I bought the truck 4 months ago, and cleaned the tank and fuel pickup really good at the same time. Fuel sending unit and carb were new about a year before...

    1985 K20 350 Lost Spark While Driving

It does have a tach, single green wire coming off the coil then through the firewall. I hadn't thought to spin the engine with the cap off, that'll be on my list for next week! I can smell fuel after cranking. I pulled each individual spark plug and checked each for spark. I also hadn't thought...

    1985 K20 350 Lost Spark While Driving

UPDATE: I did get a chance finally to get in and replace the ignition module a couple days ago; still no spark. What else could cause the type of problems I'm experiencing? I just really need to get this thing running reliably so I can get some much-needed work done on my DD Jeep but I have yet...

HEI I believe. I'm not horribly familiar with such things just yet. Still learning!

    1985 K20 350 Lost Spark While Driving

Sucker fell on its face mid-drive again. Good news is this time I'm still getting fuel! Bad news, no spark. I was thinking this unique bit of information might be the key, or maybe not, but it stood out to me: Initially when I coasted to the side of the road, I could shut off the key, then crank...

An excellent point. Good thing I know where to come next time I get in a tough spot!

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

Update/Conclusion! Dropped the tank Saturday and found ALL THE CRUD. Looks like when previous owner replaced the sending unit he had tunnel vision and just wanted to get to the task at hand. Sediment galore. Ended up doing a complete empty and clean job, and replaced all the fuel lines while I...

    Just bought my dream pickup!

Took me a bit to figure out how to attack files on my telephone ‍ Not the most beautiful machine in the world but a GREAT starting point, and finding gone already running and driving is an extra bonus!!

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

I'll be dropping the tank Saturday most likely, looks like that'll be the warmest day this week. Will be updating on what I find!

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

Best way to clean off the sock then would be an air enema into the main line to blast that crap off of there? Or would it be best to drop the tank, remove sender and clean manually?

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

I just finally found a thread talking about the significance of that bolt. Sure wish I woulda known that before; that absolutely would have saved me a lot of frustration!

    Just bought my dream pickup!

Howdy, folks! been dreaming for about 20 years of having my own square body and finally made it happen! Local college kid near me was selling his for an absolute steal and I had to pull the trigger. The Good: '85 K20 with factory 350, 4-speed, new Holley 650 carb, true dual stainless with Thrush...

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

Must be a different engine or something, I haven't seen that bolt on mine. Also my fuel pump is only mounted with two bolts, not sure if that makes much difference?

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

@AuroraGirl It's a single tank. For always wanting a square body since I was a teenager, I sure don't seem to have done much for research into common issues cause I'm not familiar with this pickup sock. Didn't think to check canister vent line or return line, so I'll definitely be checking on...

'85 K20 350ci died out on the road not getting fuel to carb, replaced fuel pump and now not getting fuel to pump

Hi folks! First post in this group so I'll try to cover all the bases in an effort to get the best outcome. Bought an '85 K20 with factory 350 and manual tranny off a college kid a couple months ago with intentions to drive while I do some work on my Jeep to get it roadworthy again, then begin...
