Latest Lost Cause Project: 1979 Z28

I like it. Sounds like a good project- I’d love a Z28 from that era.

What have you done to your square lately??

Bilsteins are on, and thanks to @Ricko1966 the tool idea to pop the lower ball joint out worked perfectly. So I was able to get the coil spring spacer to level out the ride, sits just about perfect now. Strangely, one of the KYB Gas-a-just shocks I was replacing exploded and puked all its...

Went to the local swap meet today, scored some Mickey Thompson valve covers for 60 bucks. I’ve always wanted a set!

    Lowering a 1984 silverado

I did not c-notch. Later on when I get a chance, I can try to find links to all the parts I bought, but here’s what they are. I believe I got the front parts from Classic Parts (which is a branch of OER, or vice versa). Generic 2.5” lowering spindles CPP 2.5” front lowering springs. CPP tubular...

What have you done to your square lately??

Not much going on right now- been kinda busy. Got to thinking about some more carb tuning. The 70/37 metering rod is a touch too rich, the 73/37 is a little too lean. Found a rarely known 71/42 that I’m going to try out directly from Edelbrock. While I was at it, ordered a fender cover from...

Looks great! I do the same with movies in the garage- an old favorite is Young Frankenstein just because I love the quotes.

What have you done to your square lately??

The old CD player that came with the truck was nonfunctional, and the bezel was already hacked up because of it, so I just grabbed a piece of plastic from the hardware store and cut it to cover that area. I used a hole saw to cut two spots to mount the AFR and vacuum gauges. A better place would...

    Lowering a 1984 silverado

I dropped mine 5/6. Here’s photos with rallies and with 20” Turned out good. If I were to give anyone advice, make sure you have headers for passenger car (I used Chevelle) and a low profile transmission mount to tuck up the exhaust. I just ended up using CPP lowering springs. I’m still...

Confirmed, next metering rod size up worked great. Time to throw burgers on the grill.

What have you done to your square lately??

Got the vacuum gauge installed, and just got back from the cruise and tune. I think it wants the next size up metering rod, that will be interesting.I was able to dial in the step up springs (definitely needs the most aggressive silver spring) and also the idle mixture.

What have you done to your square lately??

@JamesSam it’s a start! I hear you on the pollen, it’s going nuts here too. Got some projects in the mail from Summit. Vacuum gauge, and a set of Bilsteins for the front. The KYB gas-a-just feel good until hit a big bump or dip, then they give up and the front end oscillates all over the...

    Front spring question

Good info. Leaf springs are new, so are CPP lowering springs. Well, less than 1500 miles on both of them anyway. As soon as my schedule lines up, I’m going to make the tool that Ricko suggested and put a spacer under the driver side spring.

I think a lot of people look past those valve covers, but I’ve always liked them. Glad she’s back!

    Front spring question

I’ll put yours and @Ricko1966 suggestion in my back pocket. Those are great ideas. At this point I’m actively practicing walking past it and telling myself “they’re all like that “. My cousin is having our family’s old ‘54 resto-modded in a shop, and their square is the same way in all the...

I’ll run to the hardware store and talk to the guys. They have rows of stuff there. I’m sure they can help me out something together. Thanks!

    Front spring question

Good to know. It’s hard to see up in there with the spring still in. I tried to get the lower ball joint out this afternoon, but it won’t pop out seemingly without ruining the ball joint pressed into the tubular LCA. I tried a good amount of heat, all the tricks but it’s really in there. I...

As an Edelbrock owner that was initially a fan and now have gone through the process of getting it to work as it should, I won’t dispute that comment.

What have you done to your square lately??

Well, if the rig isn’t held together by zip ties, and you don’t have to turn on the heater to activate the fuel pump, you’re doing awright.
