May have a huge cherry on the way!

So, with some highway gears (not sure what was available for a 4wd), an overdrive transmission, tall tires, and free flowing exhaust, do you think you could squeak 15mpg out of a long bed 4wd C20 with a 350 v8?? I'm about to approach this guy again and I was seriously thinking that if I got...

May have a huge cherry on the way!

Cool, I work in Durham also. The guy whose dad has the truck has been out on vacation since we spoke. Hopefully he got together with his dad over the holidays and he will give me some good news when he gets back after the first of the year.

May have a huge cherry on the way!

That's OK, it's all good. I will get us back on track by posting pics of that truck in my garage! And to pay back the hijack, I will be sitting in the bed enjoying a bag of cheese balls.

May have a huge cherry on the way!

So he just stopped by my office 5 minutes ago because he found a picture on his phone of the truck from last week. It is gorgeous in the pic. It's a two tone dark gray/black combo with a dark gray interior. He said the shell has been on the back of it since new and there is not a scratch on...

May have a huge cherry on the way!

One of the managers at worked noticed my truck in the parking lot today and said his dad has a similar one he is thinking about selling. It's an '87, 4wd, 3/4 ton, 350, long bed, camper special that he's had since new. It's always been indoors, has about 50k miles on it and according to...

    Craigslist…...

So I take a 2 hr round trip in rush hour traffic to see what may be a great deal on an 86 short bed that was posted only hours before I called. I was to be the first one there. Ad was for $2900 or best offer. Sure enough, it is a one family owner, completely rust free v8 short bed truck...

    '84 Quadrajet Bowl Venting

Hey, good thought on that float bowl level. I know this thing is out of gas. It can sit all day long at work in the cold and it still starts instantly and goes to idle. But boy, let is sit over night and it's a different story. Good stuff, I'll check it out. Thanks

    '84 Quadrajet Bowl Venting

Long story short............. If I undo the metal fuel line leading to my carb and depress the little check valve built into the fuel filter, fuel shoots out like it's coming from a Super Soaker. Now I fully expected fuel to dribble out, but it shot out like there was pressure in the...

    Vacuum Switch on Water Neck

I can see a temperature switch shutting vacuum on or off, but I have to admit it sounds like a stretch that they would use this switch to control the level of vacuum. Hopefully there is documentation out there to back up a theory. I'd love to see it. Oh, and glad you are happy with the...

    Vacuum Switch on Water Neck

My particular truck is an 84 with a 305/auto, but I know a lot of our trucks had these. In any event, can anyone shed light on the inner workings of this switch? It's pretty obvious the water temp is controlling a few functions here, but I'd love to know what it's controlling and how...

Lock Up Converter Vacuum Switch FAIL???

If there are people reading this thread because their torque converter is notlocking up, I have one more suggestion for you. My vacuum switch was fine. What kept my '84 from locking up the converter was a cool running engine. My thermostat was stuck open. Once I replaced it and got some...

Glove Box Latch 73-87 (91) Chevy GMC Trucks

That was AWESOME!!! My '84 C10 latch was not broken, but it was loose and the rattling/buzzing of my glovebox door drove me nuts. I used the procedure from this thread, and I had a silent glovebox door in 5 minutes. This was pure gold. Poster deserves a man hug.

    Removing Glovebox Latch Assy.

OH, good Lord, should have seen that. Thanks. Guess I was right, I'm not the first one to get fooled by this!

    Removing Glovebox Latch Assy.

OK, I give up......... How do you remove the locking latch assembly from the glovebox door? Is it a similar process to removing an ignition swich? My latch is loose and it also spins freely on the glovebox door when it's open. Thought I'd take it apart and see what was going on...

Wow, would have never figured that one out. Thanks Keith

    1984 Hood Ornaments

Why do some '84 Silverado's have hood ornaments and others don't? Is it because some have had the hoods replaced? Seems to be low mile examples on Ebay of both. Thanks, Stepperado

best way to improve fuel economy

Dont know what exhaust you have, but the biggest improvement I found was when I took out the stock catalytic converter and ran true duals from front to back. The best mileage I recorded (and I recorded a lot) prior to the exhaust change was 15.4 mpg. The very first tank I ran after the exhaust...

    Body Lean..and I don't mean skinny

Wow. I wouldn't have guessed that would happen for nothing on such a new truck with low mileage. For what it's worth, I'm measuring the fender lips on the front fenders and the fender lips on the bed, so I guess I'm really throwing two different structures into the same bucket instead of...

    Body Lean..and I don't mean skinny

Well, that's two of you suggesting it's body bushings. I'll take some measurements and see what I come up with. Thanks, Stepperado

    Body Lean..and I don't mean skinny

This has probably been beat to death, but what is the most common cause of our trucks not sitting level from right to left? Looking at the back of my truck, the driver side is almost an inch lower than the passenger side. I thought for sure it was due to the 30 year old leaf springs and I was...

    84 C-10 lowering

I just took a coil out of my front springs for a 2" drop. No issues in ride quality or alignment. The alignments shop had to do very little to bring it back to stock spec's. It's not cheap (approx. $400), but to lower the rear and keep all the original mounts, shackles, no cutting, etc., I...

Were Wooden Beds Painted at Factory?

Well, considering most of them were work trucks, I'm sure slapping down a sheet of plywood would be a whole lot easier than battling with all the rusty fastener that hold the original wood in place.

Were Wooden Beds Painted at Factory?

All right, I'm buying what your selling. I'm done asking the question because I just got the answer. Thanks so much. And it's good to hear. I would have been a little disappointed if I found out someone painted the bed in my stepside other than a GM employee.

Were Wooden Beds Painted at Factory?

Excellent input. Thats a pretty good testimony right there. For what it's worth, mine was built in Canada. I will post pics of it again soon. Since I bought it I've done a 2/4 lower, wider tires, and had the window's tinted to protect the interior. It looks like a different machine.

Were Wooden Beds Painted at Factory?

Well, if I were a betting man, I'd say they came with paint also, but I really don't know it for fact. However, I did just have a classic car appraiser look at the truck so I can file an appraisal with my insurance company. He does work for classic car loans, classic car dealerships, etc...
